There's a big difference between making noise and having some moderate skills...

I don't believe he can't play anything at all....

His EGO is so big that if he play, u would have done so LIVE somewhere over the past 40 years.

that's what I've always felt.

As long as Bruce Swedien is there, and maybe another person doing some programming, he'd do just fine.

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Not necessarily... His brother Marlon can play various instruments, and I can remember him playing live...

A lot of artists can play instruments but refuse to perform on stage...

Based on what we have see Marlon do.....it's good he has never played live either.

..didn't we have a MJ/instrument thread on here about a year ago?

He might be able to do a little something but I don't think it would be at the level (as of some of the other great multi-instrumenatlists we talk about on the org).

..from what I understand Randy is the accomplished "M.I." in the Jacko clan. I've seen him play percussion, bass, synth, and acoustic guitar.

He produced his only solo album by himself playing most the instruments

Since he's been around instruments most of his life, he probably can play moderatly various instruments, now I can't guarantee how good he is...

Why is it no one can attest to his musical abilities? Why after all these years is it a mystery. Heck even Madonna has been seen playing Guitar...in Concert. I think I saw MJ play piano once and it was a noodle at that.

Exactly. I've seen Elvis play the piano, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon & Jimi Hendrix play the drums, Prince beatbox, Wayne Newton play guitar, Eddie Van Halen play bass, Elvis Costello play piano & harmonica, Justin Timberlake play several instruments.....

And maybe they all suck, but they do it because they can and because they're musicians.

A lot !!!!!

Like James Brown, like Chaka Khan, like Aretha, like R KElly, like Philip Bailey, like El Debarge etc...

Just to name those in my mind, but there are too many...

A lot of artists have hidden instrumental skills, but refuse to perform on stage...

Most of these guys are not known for their instrument skills in the first place...

Just because MJ has always refused to play LIVE doesnt mean he can't play it...

I just feel hard to believe that being around so many instruments and someof the best musicians all his life, he only can make noise... lol

I think I'll need to listen to GM before outright disagreeing though.

Like which ones? Billie Jean, Beat it, TWYMMF and Smooth Criminal. That's all that gets really played on the radio.

Depends where you live. I hear Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, Rock With You, Off The Wall, WBSS, Billie Jean, Human Nature, PYT, TWYMMF, Man In The Mirror, Remember The Time, You Are Not Alone, You Rock My World, Butterflies, and alot of J5 songs on the radio

There is no way he can only make noise. No way someone can have music around him his entire life yet not be able to play anything. That's Britney in 15 years! lol

I just think that it's very odd that he has never demonstrated his musical chops at least not very publically. Nor have any boots surfaced that would be pre-production (I am not certain of this, but going by some of the fans here, there doesn't seem to be).

What also shocks me is the lack of content coming from him throughout his career. If he's supposed to be great (NOw I am a fan mind you) why has there been not a lot of music to surface?

Dance

People need to stop playing and really look at dude's life. All his brothers play and he knows enough about his stuff to direct someone, so I find it very hard to believe he can't do a little something. It's not like he's Janet, and I'm not saying he's amazing.

well, demos of Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, Rock With You, Wanna Be Startin Somethin, and Billie Jean, were mostly Michael with either Randy or Greg Philliganes

Well, yes, as you mentioned Michael is credited for playing various instruments on HIStory, Blood on the Dance Floor and Invincible.

Teddy Riley also called Michael a multi-instrumentalist and urged Michael to play instruments live on stage during the Dangerous tour, but Michael thought it would distract from his dancing.

As you all know he's also a top-of-the-line songwriter and producer. So if Michael was locked away in a studio by himself for a couple of months, he would emerge with a fine album.

Well, Quincy Jones was credited for Producer on MJ's albums

Yes, and we've SEEN all those people play at various times, so we know what they can do. We've still never, after 38 years, ever SEEN Michael play anything other than a tambourine.

I saw a bit of Timberlake's concert the other day and it's obvious he can play keyboards. He's not a virtuoso, but he can play. I've also seen Britney playing a piece on piano. She was competent. She can play. I'm still waiting to see Michael.
