VoicesCarry said: SoulAlive said: this brings up an interesting thought I have about Madonna's new album. I predict alot of longtime fans will hate it,but there will be many people outside her fanbase who will like it.It will appeal to many people who haven't bought a Madonna album in years.I could be wrong, but that's the feeling I have. You're right. I hate it, and won't be bothering with this album because I hate all three songs that I've heard from it. Complete trash. But she did it to get a hit, and the same people that buy Fergie are gonna buy this. Actually, the people that brought Bedtime Stories (Madonna's take on the Mary J. Blige-type hip-hop soul album) are going to buy Hard Candy (Madonna's take on a Timbaland hip-pop album). [Edited 3/29/08 7:10am]

It was Top 5 at Pop radio (I forget if it went to #1 or not...something tells me it didn't) and Top 10 at Rhythmic. I'm not sure where the idea comes from that HU struggled in the US. It went Top 20 at Pop radio despite being something completely different than the Rhythmic-based material that is normally played on that format. It was never going to be big at other formats, but it did extremely well for its limited scope. Madonna's biggest radio hits of this decade are Rhythmic-based and she knows this. It never reached top 40 airplay. peak audience impression for Hung Up - 26million. '4 minutes' already beat that after 1 week. so that's struggling 4 a lead off Madonna single. I don't really understand American radio..I get the format system..but how can something like 'Sorry' not b considered radio friendly.. No, it didn't, but then it was never destined to because other formats were not going to touch it. For what it was, it did very well.

Admit it: It isn't because you don't love Madonna anymore, but it is because you hate Timbaland more than before (musically speaking, not personal).

American radio is insane.Imo,songs like "Get Together" and "Jump" are much better than "4 Minutes",but guess what song is actually gonna become a hit? It's like I pointed out on another thread....in America, you pretty much have to "dumb down" your music if you wanna get a hit.If Madonna hadn't worked with popular folks like Timbaland and Justin, her new music wouldn't go anywhere on American radio.

I bought Bedtime Stories, and won't be buying this. it's funny....alot of hardcore, longtime Madonna fans hate the Bedtime Stories album. They see it as her "selling out" (whatever that means).Whenever Bedtime Stories is analyzed/discussed on a Madonna forum, there's so many mixed opinions about it.But on the other hand,I know many people who aren't big Madonna fans, and they love that album."Take A Bow" was liked by many people who had never bought anything else by Madonna. The new album will get the same type of reaction. It will divide her fanbase, but it will find an audience. It will have a broader appeal.

format system..but how can something like 'Sorry' not b considered radio friendly.. Idiots are in charge. "Sorry" had all the ingredients to be a big hit....an instant, catchy chorus/hook....vibrant production....and it was extremely danceable. There is no reason why American radio should have ignored it.Let's face it....if you add some "hip hop flavor" to your music, that's the only way you will get airplay in America."4 Minutes" has already surpassed all of the Confessions singles,in terms of airplay.I mean,I'm happy that Madonna has a hit,but it pisses me off the way American radio works

Not to mention Bedtime Stories was 14 years ago...AND had an actual SONG for the first single. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I think both "secret" and "take a bow" are responsible for it's appeal to non-madonna fans. then again i do remember all the videos from BS getting huge airplay, back when MTV played videos... I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Well the figures speak for themselves, whatever way u look at it. It wasn't a airplay hit. So it struggled. Even 'Call On Me' did better & that song was not a hit. Madonna is not promoted as a niche artist so ur logic doesn't apply. But I agree with you. In all relativity, with not a single airplay hit, COAD was a massive succes. ...Your coochie gonna swell up and fall apart...

[Edited 3/29/08 7:10am] Not true. I adore Bedtime Stories and think she wore that album much more naturally than whatever this new album is. I'll buy Hard Candy because it's Madonna, but based on what I've heard, I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole if it was released by someone else. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018!
