Favorite decade for music?

What is your favorite decade musically? Mine is by far the 80s. This would be my order for decades of the modern era:

1980s
1990s
1970s
2000s
1950s
1960s

In order:

1. 80s
2. 70s
3. 90s
4. 60s
5. 00s
6. 50s

The 80s always get a lot of bad press. I don't know, maybe it's my age. They were fun times musically, and unlike today, commercial pop could be credible.

I just threw in 30's & 40's so 50's could be even lower.

80's/90's tie
followed closely by the 70's
the rest I don't really care about
and the Naughties (00's) are still too new to determine how much I like/dislike them.

I wasn't even alive during the 70s! I love Blondie and David Bowie though. However, no matter how much I get into the 70s, they will never compete with the 80s for me. Prince, Madonna, Eurythmics, Janet Jackson, The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order...nod

I also should add that I believe that the 70s were stellar overall for music, but I think the proportion of music that I would like from the 70s is not near the proportion I like from the 80s. Stuff like Pink Floyd, Boston, Kansas, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc. just doesn't appeal to me.

However, the 70s did also have The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Joy Division, The Clash, The Talking Heads, Parliament/Funkadelic and others. biggrin

Yes David I was too young to remember most of it other than what my parents played like Fleetwood Mac and stuff. But I listen to a lot of stuff from the 70's. Some of my favorite artists got their start then. My favorite band is Joy Division and my favorite solo artist other than Prince is Bowie although both of them transcend that decade and its overall sound. I love glam, punk and post-punk!

My fav decade for music is the 70s for all the real R'n'B and funk which is the bulk of my collection, I have everything from motown to curtis mayfield to chic. Why do I love that era? cause the music was real and heartfelt and had majority of songs either that something social (Marvin Gaye's What's Going On?) to say or that positive message of self love (eg. Shining Star by Earth, Wind & Fire). IMO that is what's missing in today's so-called R'n'B and hip hop scene.

The 80s is my fave by far. There was such great diversity in music. You could turn on the radio and hear a little rock, rap, pop and r&b- all on the same station. Wish we could revert back to those times but I guess progress always prevails.

For me:

1. 1970's
2. 1960's
3. 1980's

I don't care too much for the 90's or 00's music unless someone attempts originality and innovation (that's definitely lacking these days, except for a few people). there. I can't stand sampling. Can't these lazy so called "entertainers" write original music?

Man I keep going back and forth on this one, but I must give it up in this order:

1970's: Born in early 70's, but for some reason the music was just about fun, or it was serious for a reason, and ultimately quite creative. More my parents time, but I know more than they do about that period.

1980's: Teen years, so I can't help but to claim. A 1 hit wonder of the 80's is still better than one that comes around these days. I used to tape songs from the radio, and it's true that radio was more diverse.

1960's: Before my time, but so easy to identify with and love, from Motown, to the Girl Groups, to the British invasion. It's a period that can't be beat.

1990's: I have very few fond memories of the last decade. There were moments, and that's about it.

2000's: Looks like a repeat of the previous decade.

70's...especially EARLY 70's. Zep, Sly, Jackson 5, Black Sabbath, Neil Young, The Last Waltz, Elton John, Exile on Main St, AC/DC, All Things Must Pass, Imagine, Joni, Boston...but also The Clash, Pretenders, Elvis Costello, The Jam. Disco almost ruined it...but I have to admit one of my guilty pleasures are The Bee Gees...fuckin love Jive Talkin...disbelief

60's...The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, The Band, Cream, Jimi, The Doors, Janis, Motown, James, Aretha, Otis. 'nuff said.

80's...A lot of the music from this era makes me want to vomit, but becasue of the fact that it is Prince's Big Time Era AND because I somehow have a lot of good memories from the music in this era it comes in 3rd on this list. Metal was the shit for me then...

90's...This was a tough one because I discovered some of my favorite bands during the 90's. Oasis, The Stone Roses (do they count as a 90's band? ...all I know I discovered them then so they are for me), Seattle, and Smashing Pumpkins. However, the last part of the decade was absolute shite. When things went pop...it ruined the decade in music for me...or maybe I was just growing up.

00's...so far, nothing big has been happening for me during the 00s. I am more into the 60's, 70's, and Prince more than ever...the only current bands I dig are Travis, Coldplay, and Gomez.

50's...just don't do it for me...a bit of Sinatra and some old time country but that is about it.
