Hell yeah, and I'll be buying them until they don't make them anymore. I might buy me a computer for home with my income tax return (that's the only way I'd be able to afford one) but even when I get one, I sure as hell ain't got the money for a high speed internet service each month or the patience to wait for something to download through dial up internet service. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have mummy and daddy to pay their bills. lol

You know, bro, computers ain't that expensive nowadays... wink

The cheapest I've seen are around $500 or $600. Do you know how many bills I could pay with that much money? Or I could get some much needed work done to my car. Or I could pay down on the outrageous balance on my credit card which got charged up in the first place because of emergencies with no money to pay for them with. Hell, I even owe my doctor some money also. lol

Until computers go down to around $200, they are still too expensive.

cd's and vinyl nod
More and more I am hating music downloaded unless its a lossless format. Especially iTunes, their downloads are crap.

Yes, I still buy CDs.

I also buy digital files of stuff that's hard-to-find and I want to support.

I buy them sporadically now because I don't have a whole lot of room at my new apartment (I had to leave most of my CDs back in New York! sad ) I have a 60GB iPod that has most of the important stuff on it though.

I love the act of going into a record store and actually SHOPPING for albums and CDs. The surprise of finding soemthing you weren't necessarily looking for and buying it as well. There aren't many record stores around which sucks because I used to LIVE at Tower when it was here. sad

MP3s are fine and good but as everyone's said, sound quality isn't as good and its intangible. They don't come with any information either. What if I want to know who the players on a track were, or who the producer was? You don't really get that with a file.

I hope that eventually it is common place to have a picture file attached to every song file showing all of the necessary session info (+ lyrics). How hard would that be?

I think the intangible-ness of it is what holds me back, considering I can get down with any other format. :irocktapes:

I feel you. I get a LOT of albums on import because, to be real, America is late when it comes to a lot of current, modern dance music. Unless you're in a city like New York, LA, Miami, Detroit, Chicago with venerable scenes -- you would have no fucking idea what is going on -- so I can't hate on the internet or folks getting stuff online if you're in Kansas or whatnot. U.S. consumer relevance is so backward to the point where muthafuckas REALLy think heads is on some gel-in-your-hair, Night at the Roxbury shit and still erroneously dub it "techno" or "trance." So I don't hate on folks who get their download/burn on if they don't want the wack ass selections next to the toothpaste and toilet paper @ Wal-Mart.

And I think it's funny some heads are trying to vilify iPods.

I only buy CDs if I can't find a title in a downloadable format -- then I rip the music and sell the CD. I like the music, but I don't like amassing much stuff.

i do still buy CDs, because i like the permanence of them (relatively speaking) and i like the artwork, liner notes, and all that jazz.

i do have an iPod, and my hope is to load all my music onto it so i don't use my CDs as much. but if i ever lose or get rid of my iPod, or if something happens with my iTunes library (or whatEVER, you see where i'm going with this), then i am screwed. i like having CDs as my back-up.

I with you on that, especially the liner notes. Tres importante.
That used to be a ritual. Buy the LP and then sit there consuming all the liner note info.
The problem now is that the text is so small on CDs, these old eyes need glasses.

Haven't joined the iPod crowd for similar reasons along with the work involved in loading all the music into them.
I've purchase 2 for my daughter so far. Sometimes i'll look at her old one and consider using it. Then I regain my senses.

My CD purchase are split between new releases and replacing older LPs
I'll use "alternate sources" for things that are rare, out of print, or material that just won't ever make it to CD.

I do! I generally buy around 15-20 new albums each year and around 40 older ones, plus CD singles if they have nice goodies. The problem that's now facing me is finding shelving to store it all!

Yes I do and that's not gonna change for a long time. Nope, no matter how enslaved we humans become to the digital format, I'm still gonna be a sucker for plastic. Hell, I'm not gonna change my love for vinyl and cassettes. I still even buy those to this day. The same for VHS and DVD's too.

I'm too poor for an iPod dammit. lol

i'm in love with my new iPod, and would totally recommend you loading just a bit of music to one of those old iPods sitting around your house. they're great for when you're traveling or when you're stuck in front of a computer for long projects at work...especially if you load a lot into the iPod and hit random play. voila! you have your own personalized jukebox/radio station, catered specifically to your tastes. i love it.

BUT. when i'm at home and i'm enjoying music, i still make a point to listen to CDs and vinyl, and i still love reading liner notes and digging on the album art. it's an important part of the whole experience to me, and hopefully it always will be. nod
