I know what you must be thinking...Edie Brickell...WTF? I am a big fan of hers and have been since the get go. While I may not listen to that type of music, something about her lyrical style and voice I just love. Be it her with the Bohemians or simply accoustic on her guitar. I love it all. Many of her albums, like Sade's and George Michael are few and far in between, but in the past few years she has been writing a LOT more and putting out more music. Recently she started making music with her step-son Harper Simon. Some of the result was a collection of really good songs that they decided to do a project around. The sound is quite a departure from the accoustic/country/folk music she had been writing lately. The new music sounds organic, atmospheric almost space-rockish. IMO, I think it's the best she has done in a long time and that is saying a lot as I have really enjoyed her last few albums. This one is just a bit different. Features many talented musicians, like Sean Lennon, Yuka Honda, Miho Hatori and many others!

I have heard 4 of their songs including 3 from the new album out tomorrow. They are all fantastic! 2 of them can be heard here from their NPR show yesterday

Harper Simon and Edie Brickell have written and collaborated casually during their many years of friendship. Naming themselves The Heavy Circles, the two will release their debut recording on February 12, 2008.

Many years ago Simon had an idea to invite Brickell to join him in the studio with several of his friends. Placing her in a different recording environment, might, he thought, be inspiring creatively and result in magic. With this in mind, Simon arranged a session—many friends and colleagues joined in. The list was lengthy: Lennon, Honda, Martha Wainwright, drummer Matt Johnson (Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley), string arranger Joan Wasser (Rufus Wainwright), Inara George (the Bird and the Bee), Money Mark, Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto), Elysian Fields’ Jennifer Charles and Orin Bloedow, and Theremin player Pamelia Kurstin.

The Heavy Circles shine a new light on Brickell’s vocals and lyrics—stylishly different from her critically acclaimed time with her solo projects and the New Bohemians. For Simon, this group spotlights his blossoming song writing talents and natural ability to produce. The album is co-produced by Harper Simon and Bryce Goggin.

i loved the last bohemian project and her last solo...this is like her third cd in three years, right?

Just about. Though I "grabbed" a bunch of things she has posted on MySpace. Mostly out-takes or personal recordings that she'll think of during her walks and come home and capture the songs she sings to herself. Some of them are really good, even though many are simply her and either a guitar or a piano. Not to speculate, but I think she's having issues with Paul and many of these are comeing from that place.

Cool! I always wonder what the hell she's up to besides being married to Paul Simon.

Shooting Rubber Bands at the Stars is a really overlooked album. Yeah, it had the huge single, "What I am", but the album as a whole is stellar.

Pretty much after the first album (or even after What I am) most songs did not get that much play. College Radio maybe. I know Good times with the Late Barry WHite was the song used to promote Windows 95.
