some people will passionately disagree with this, but Janis Joplin should definitely be mentioned. She had a fantastic voice for rock'n'roll.

Since there is no BEST, if I were gonna start a ROCK band, these are among some of the ones i'd pick from.
Progressive Rock... ...Doug Pinnick Classic Rock... ...Paul Rodgers Pop/Rock... ...Steve Perry tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I don't know who has the best voice in rock but Freddie Mercury, Chris Cornell and Steven Perry are my faves.

There are tons of great voices in rock - absolutely tons, however I would say my pick is:
Freddie Mercury - no one has a voice like his.

Steve Perry
Freddie Mercury Axel Rose (back in the Day)

The snobbish asshole answer: you people obviously don't have a clue what you're talking about and have very lil' musical knowledge because anyone who knows anything knows that Steve Marriot was the greatest rock vocalist of all time. Thank you. I enjoyed educating you all on basic music knowledge as well.

I'm a big Bowie fan but his voice is so hit or miss for me. Sometimes he sounds great and others he sucks. I can't figure him out! :^P [Edited 2/29/08 8:04am]

Based purely on voice, not necessarily vocal skills, Rod Stewart really stands out to me.
It's a classic rock voice, as opposed to a Bowie who could sing w/Bing or Bennett no problem. Rod Stewart had the perfect edge and character to his voice. Maybe I'm foretting someone, but that jumped right out at me. My Legacy

Paul Rodgers
Steve Perry (not a huge Journey fan, but his voice is amazing) Robert Plant Phil Lynott And I'm really into a Faces phase again right now, so I guess I have to add Rod Stewart. Steve Miller Ian Gillan These are just my favorites. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven
