I almost worship it. It's among my top 100 albums ever, and if it weren't for the title track and "Love Profusion", it would be even higher!

Proof how well Pat works with Madonna. "Frozen" was the best song she'd done since "express yourself", and the album proved she didn't always need to run to the latest trendy producers like her previous record "bedtime stories" did.

For "frozen" alone, the album deserves props.

Well, AL is full of naïve and child-like lyrics, but that's part of its charm: sonically, the album is impeccable...

i agree, although strangely the album also contains one of my fav madonna
lyrics. die another day appeals to me tremendously although it's not that
good a lyric lol. but i just love the song to death for the lines:

i'm gonna destroy my ego
i'm gonna close my body now

Yep...it re-uses of the lyrics of Open your heart.

I adore it. My only complaint is "Die Another Day". I've never been able to get into that song.

It does? I love "open your heart", and even though Iam not a big Madonna fan, I always liked her work with Pat Leonard best. This new album with Timbaland is trend chasing again. It worked with "bedtime stories" so Iam sure it will work in her favour. Maybe because of her low US sales (for her) of "confessions...", she feels the need to try and make a more "US centric" album, but at least "hung up" was a huge worldwide hit. Fuck knows why USA turned its hiphop culture obsesses nose at it?

so much love for this album...damn...

never will understand why 'bedtime stories' wasnt received as well or better - it is superior in every way to me - but maybe it just wasn't radical enough of a change up for her...

if you really think about it, the whole vibe for 'ray of light' really began with BS...Sancturary, Bedtime Story, even Inside of me had that confessional, dreamy vibe to it...
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I think that people saw the clips and thought 'oh, more of that sex-stuff' and just zoned out. The Sex book had kinda of killed all musical interest in her with Erotica and Bedtime Stories. (and she freaked people out with Evita)

Ray Of Light, lyrically, was the opposite of those albums, it had her making adult statements, true to many other's souls. It made the album stand out with critics as well as the audience.

Because it's not as good. It's a good album, sure, but nowhere near ROL.

I remember before this CD was released,Madonna mentioned in an interview that she would follow it up with a remix album to be titled "Veronica Electronica".This album was gonna contain the original 10-minute version of "Ray Of Light".I kept waiting for this project, but it never materialized.Anyone remember this?

"Veronica Electronica" was also the name of Madonna's alter ego for the planned 1999 'Ray Of Light' tour, which also never happened. At the time,I thought she was crazy for cancelling a tour, but it all made sense. She made another album ('Music') and was able to spotlight both albums on her 2001 tour.

yes because the world was much better off with the Next Best Thing instead of a tour.

Bedtime Stories was popular among my friends who were into r&b and hip hop, and I know people who still remember Secret and Take a Bow, which were top 10 and number 1

by the way, I also love American Life and think it deserved to sell more than it did, it contains some of her most beautiful and creative work.

Oooooops I totally forgot to make this thread, but glad others launched it, thanks!

I love most of Madonna's albums, but if I have to choose ONLY one, it has to be Ray Of Light! The first 3 tracks are already make it AMAZING!

The lack of love for Like A Virgin disturbs me. The classic title track, Material Girl (one of her best vids), Dress You Up and Angel are all killer. You all suck!

'Like A Virgin' is Madonna's bigest-selling album. As such,it's too familiar and over-played to many fans. That's why it doesn't get much love. It's the same way with other artists and their biggest albums. How many times do you see folks (in this forum and elsewhere) arguing that Michael Jackson's 'Off The Wall' is better than the bigger-selling 'Thriller'? lol

I get how she could be over it after being called the Material Girl by the press ever since and yeah it got played out in the 80s but those songs still stand up. I love her voice at the end of Angel, I had the extended remix on repeat the other day, yay!

Correction

True Blue is the biggest-selling studio album from Madonna.

It's sticky and sweet...

It's a shame that Stay wasn't a single. I've been listening a lot to the LAV lp and I've become in love with that song. The early version of it (Stay'81) is great also

"Stay" was the b-side for some True Blue-era single.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I absolutely loved it. And I still do, even though I'm probably a little too familiar with it at this point for it to wow me like it used to. It's still a favorite though.
