Again, rationalizing and apologizing. Why in the world would Michael Jackson need to leverage an asset like this to the tune of a $24 million debt? We're not talking about someone who should have cashflow problems. Of all the artists, MJ should be among the last who has problems with money.

Why? Probably because he need cash?? Ask him that! Not me! I don't know where his money went!

And if MJ has a loan about Neverland, NO he DOESN'T own the place. The company that financed the debt owns it. When you spend money the way it's been alleged about MJ over the years, it's going to come back to you.

Well, someone made it look like Michael never owned the place... like he got a loan, which he has to pay back for the rest of his live to eventually own the property, like most people do! That was not the case! He bought that property and paid the full amount for it, so it is (was) his! Only in recent years he got a loan on it... so technically whoever gave him that loan owns Neverland now, until he pays back that loan! But still... it was his!

This is the part I don't understand. How comes he has a mortgage to pay? Surely he should own the whole thing. I can only assume he took out a loan somewhere and used Neverland as insurance on the loan. He's been living that way for years now, but even with his tremendous assets, you can only get away with that for so long before the chickens come home to roost.

Yes! That's exactly what he did! Of course he owns the place! And if he finally would go back to work that would be a reasonable way to live (it would be nothing more than a cash advance)... if he would have released an album and done some concerts in the last couple of years he could have paid back everything! I'm sure, if there wouldn't have been a trial that would be the case, he was full of plans back in '03!
[Edited 3/2/08 7:43am]

MJ obviously remortgage Neverland hence the continuing threat of foreclosure, therefore he doesn't owe it outright..or are you one of those fans that still believe that Michael has NO financial problems and it is all the media fault?

The fact of the matter is Michael shouldn't be in the financial position he is in now. If someone had told me 25 years ago Michael Jackson would be in the state he is now; financially, his reputation in tatters and him looking nothing like the man he once, was I would have laughed so hard and told them to go and sit down lol

As some as said he sold his soul to the devil and look what we have now; someone who is a shadow of his former self in every sense of the word.

We could start a separate thread on all the other assets which Mike has used as insurance on loans, because the fact is they are ALL in jeopardy. He's already lost a large chunk of the Beatles catalogue in this way and Sony bailed him out of trouble a few years ago in exchange for an even bigger chunk if he defaults. He's also used the publishing on his own songs as guarantees for other loans. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years he no longer owned the rights to "Beat It" and "Billie Jean". Who knows, maybe Paul McCartney could buy them cheap. Wouldn't that be sweet revenge? lol

Keanu Reaves is a surfing, motorcycle crashing, fake band lead sing freak, he's just not big enough to cause much of a fuss over

Considering you have a Michael Jackson picture as your avatar, why am I not surprised?

The point you and other apologists seem not to understand is that considering the millions Michael Jackson has made over the years, there should be no reason where the man has these reported near-insurmountable debts. It is fair to say that MJ should be a billionaire, just on the success of "Thriller" over the past 25 years. That's not to include his subsequent albums and tours, plus he has some ownership/royalty rights over some of the songs himself.

Based on what we have seen and know of other entertainers' financial situations in somewhat familiar grounds, they seem to be in much better financial straits than MJ. Some of MJ's peers like Madonna don't seem to be in his state; that's not even to mention acts like P. Diddy and Jay-Z.

You're still missing the point -- of all the entertainers out there, Michael Jackson arguably should be the last person who needs to borrow money. And certainly not to the point where he has a $24 million note on the house. But then again, this is a man who reportedly has a monthly spending budget of $2 million per month.

Do you see why there are people who are bewildered by this, if not indifferent? What kind of lifestyle do you have where you need to use hundreds of millions of dollars in assets as collateral to live on? If Freddie Jackson still can make a decent living off his (comparatively much smaller) success, then there is no excuse for Michael Jackson.

Each to their own, I say. What one considers normal, another person won't. One person's normal activities would include surfing, etc, another person's normal activities would include sky diving and anothers may include theme parks, and yet anothers listening to music and reading...- why call any of them a freak?

I swear, are all Michael Jackson apologists this way? All those activities you named are normal hobbies, conventional interests you see various members of society enjoy. Getting multiple plastic surgeries, facing child molestation charges, spending millions to the point of financial ruin (a lot of it on exorbitant purchases), etc., are NOT normal activities.

I am not an apologist at all- some things Michael Jackson does I will never defend. I just simply don't see what is so abnormal about an individual's hobbies! I am not even discussing the other stuff (that you mentioned, which aren't hobbies)- I was simply commenting on the "hobbies" (as in theme parks, skateboarding etc) part of the discussion. Who's to say that one person's hobbies or extra curricular activities are more freaky than anothers? THAT is what I was discussing.

Please don't generalise me or put me into a category.

Don't worry, he'll probably get another loan from somewhere to pay back this loan with, thus delaying the inevitable a bit longer. He's been doing this for years now.

That's why the 25th anniversary of Thriller is talked about all over the world, that's why as the #1 album in the world, that's why Thriller is the top selling video in the world right now.
If he's irrelevant, then Prince is a fiction that never existed.

Firstly, I'm talking about how he relates to my life, not anyone else's. Secondly, that's a different Michael Jackson people are buying there. It's a young, good looking black guy, making great music who'd never been accused of child abuse. They can buy Thriller with a clear conscience because it feels like a different person and of course, ultimately it's just nostalgia anyway.
