Goldfrapps Seventh Tree Discussion Thread

OMG Takes me right back to Felt Mountain! I feel sad for those really liking the last two's electro...they might not like this so much. No Utopia, but I Think that one of the songs will emerge as such. It's a really lush and quiet album. Me loves very much!

SUch sadness such beauty!

Great album. I've had it for a few months. Yes, it does feel a bit like Felt Mountain (at least from a mellow standpoint) -- a little more organic and loose than that album. Allison's voice is great, as always. Most dismiss the genius of Will Gregory's writing and instrumentation, when discussing Goldfrapp. It tends to always lean on Allison's voice and obviously her looks. I really don't think Goldfrapp would be quite as unique without Will's contributions. The guy's a great musician (besides his great keyboard/laptop work on Goldfrapp's albums, check out his sax work on Tears For Fears "Scenes From The Big Chair" DVD back in '85 and his oboe/sax work on Portishead's live DVD.

Nonetheless, GF are continually redefining their sound. Great new album. I look forward to seeing/hearing what they do next.

Americans weren't allowed to legally purchase the album until today. Maybe no one posted because we all still play by the rules.

And I love it. Yes, it's more like Felt Mountain than any of Goldfrapp's other albums, but it's different from that one too. The artwork totally fits the sound--like some weird, lost 70s electronic-folk experiment.

Liking it? I'm LOVING it! My third time through today and it's hard to decide on a favorite song because they are all so good. The one that did stand out the most at first was "Caravan Girl", but that may be just because it was the danciest.

It is growing on me. Much of it sounds congruent and I was expecting a little more variety, considering that they have covered much ground musically in the 8-10 years they have been putting out music. I was also expecting something a little more sumptuous like Time Not of this World from the last album. That said, I do like it a lot. More than the last one...certainly as I feel that was one last pitch to the electro crowd and more so was a Black CHerry pt 2.

It's hard to discuss something you haven't heard (tell that to the Madonnada/Janet/MJ freaks) But really what was there to discuss. This thread was practically ignored for most of the day. I do pride myself that I started it and not you razz

Supernature was pop experiment. It is still their more accessible album.

I think currently my Goldfrapp top is:

1. Felt Mountain
2. Seventh Tree
3. Black Chery
4. Supernature

by the way...the early leak was an unmastered version of the album. Some songs like Happyness and other have slightly diferent mixes and less "fx" like the retail release.
