It is strange. Everything about that interview was suspect as hell. Why did Johnny even feel the need to do an interview? It's not like he has a new CD comeing out, which is sad cause Johnny's the bomb. It's sad that it's more about whether or not Johnny's laying the pipe on Eddie instead of it being about Johnny's pipes. I wish he would sing more than he does.

I do too. I think Johnny is one of the last soul singers of this generation who can really belt out a note.

I totally agree with you. My My My is a great example of this. I'm afraid that if Johnny decided to do another CD, with the type of producers out today, he wouldn't shine the way he used to because the material out now sucks serious ass but who knows? It could still work but he needs to get in the studio first.

well I don't know what to believe either. I mean yes, he's trying a bit too hard by trying to prove his "heterosexuality"....what I found offensive, wasn't that he said he had a "stable" of women, it was how he told all his bff's information about how he and Tracy broke up. I mean if you a true friend, why are you giving the public all these details about what actually happened???? Seems strange to me to be putting Eddie's business out in the street.

But if people keep calling you out and putting the story on shout when they intervew you, what is a person supposed to do?

Just last week I'm listening to the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning show, and they're talking about the singers they've booked for its' annual r&b Fantastic Voyage cruise (such as Patti, Johnny Gill, etc), and the whole radio panel is sitting there joking about how when it's time to do his interview they're GOING TO ASK ABOUT EDDIE so he better get ready. Mind you, this is during rush hour when hundreds of thousands of folks across the country are in transit listening to this show. I imagine when he does come in or call in, whether he speaks on it or declines to comment it won't matter anyway because people have already made up their minds, whether it's true or not he and Eddie are actually "together"...he's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, people are going to judge him anyway...

Why is Johnny Gill even talking about this? rolleyes The truth is....MOST people don't care about his sex life anyway.I'm not trying to be mean, but let's face it...he's irrelevent. He hasn't had a hit song since the early 90s.I don't think he has to worry about the tabloids exposing his "secrets".No one cares anyway. He should stop trippin' and just concentrate on those New Edition reunion tours.

Exactly. Johnny Gill is someone who hasn't recorded an album of solo material in, what, nearly a dozen years? No matter what the reason is, JG really has not been a point of relevant discussion since New Edition's "One Love" and as a solo act since "Let's Get the Mood Right." If anything, I feel the bigger stories are:

1.) Why is he telling all of Eddie Murphy's business on the radio?
2.) Why is he being so indignant in his responses on "The Doug Banks Show?"
3.) Why hasn't anyone ever asked him why in the world doesn't he have a record deal and has been persona non grata since the Clinton administration?

lol

But seriously, I think he’d be better off if he just stated that he refuses to answer these questions anymore especially considering the fact that he’s addressed them on several occasions over the years.

While I joke, in all honesty it really doesn’t matter. With the exception of that stupid ‘stable’ comment, he’s always come across as a decent guy and quite appealing to be honest. His relationship with Eddie, whatever it is, is not for us to understand.

His outrageous lies were clearly a very desperate and pathetic attempt to clean up his reputation at my expense. OK, lets say Eddie is really gay or to put it more accurately Bi-sexual what about all those jokes from his Raw/Delirious days? Was he just hiding his true sexuality behind those jokes or hadn't he discovered his true sexuality at the time?

Because all those jokes have come back to haunt him.

Hey guys! I heard the rumors about Eddie being into drag queens years before he was ever arrested for picking one up. Also when I moved to DC in 1988 there were already rumors that Eddie, Johnny, Arscenio, and Sugar Ray were apart of gay click. Last but not least when Prince did his gig in Vegas in 2006 (not the residentcy but the one off that cost 312 dollar or so) Eddie showed up with Johnny without a chick insight. They are lovers or girlfriends.

Yeah, I remember him contrasting his sexuality with MJ's who he said was gay. That's why I was surprised when MJ and Eddie got all cosy with each other in the early '90s.

Well, I heard about him with a tranny well before he was arrested for kerb crawling too.

But when you look at it Eddie always made the gay jokes the centre of his shows. He is the only comedian that I know that consistently made gay jokes. Not even Richard Pryor and Chris Rock goes on about gays in their jokes the way Eddie does.

And as for Sugar Ray Leonard are you refering to the Boxer?

why would Johnny need to clean up his reputation? he's not selling music anymore- and if being gay is suppose to be so acceptable - what is the big friggin deal-

nobody was all down lufas windpipes about it when he was alive-

Oh I believe that. Family knows family.

Like I said, I'm more interested in Johnny Gill's story on why he essentially has been a recording artist without a deal since 1996. His previous two albums went gold (1993's "Provocative" and 1996's "Let's Get the Mood Right"), but even after the success of the first LSG album he still did not have a recording deal. He was a solid, well respected singer with a good enough following to have decent-selling albums. It wasn't like his career went into the law of diminishing returns like some his former peers.

Yeah, I would like to know too. He's the only one from NE that's a decent solo artist (not including Bobby) and could still do it now. Is it disinterest? Life? Legalities? All of the above? I wonder if he misses performing during the long NE droughts.

That's the thing -- Johnny Gill still performs live, as a solo act and as a member of New Edition. He was performing in Atlanta at Valentine's Day concert along with Keith Sweat and Lenny Williams.

Even beyond the New Edition aspect, JG has a level of interest from people who never liked New Edition's style of music (I always looked at him in that mode of artists like Gerald Levert, Teddy Pendergrass, etc.). And unlike some of his other peers (Boyz II Men, K-Ci and Jo Jo, etc.) his career was hardly to the point where people were begging him to quit (his last album went gold). Even after the success of the first LSG project, he had no recording contract.

I would say JG wouldn't have a hard problem finding work, but outside of the LSG projects and New Edition's "One Love" album he hasn't been heard from in years. Even Bell Biv DeVoe and Ralph Tresvant have come out with albums in recent years on small labels and I would imagine JG would be a more viable recording artist than them. If anything, if there is interest about JG in this story it's more in the vein what in the world has he been doing with himself for all these years.

The industry is different now and he knows that he wont sell unless he is 'hip' ..that's just not JG right now. New Edition tours about every year, he has his hand in somewhere.

There are probably many who don't. As much as I've heard people joke here about it, or on the radio...I think my reaction has always been more of "Oh...Eddie's with Johnny Gill...? hmm Ummm, okay then confuse smoker..."

I guess I just look at him like an actor who's aging, found a lucrative living making his animation and family movies...he's not out in public tearing stuff up, being negative or inviting destructive attention, so why not just leave the guy be and let him do his thing shrug
