Something is very wrong with BET- they are giving tribute to Thriller25 with MJ no where to be found- I've never heard of such things. If you are still breathing and walking- why not show up to a tribute in your behalf.

Tyra was the first black model to appear on SI, she has a show (ANTM) that's been replicated around the globe and she does have a successful tv show. She also has her camp for teen girls.

These are contemporaries. They aren't waiting to someone is dead to honor them.

If anything, Tyra is a successful black woman admired by many young women. She didn't just sit back and chill on being pretty. Love her or hate her...she's doing something.


do we need to go down the list since some obviously don't know the accomplishments of those being honored.

Its an asshole move to say these people are being honored simply because they are black.

Hosted by Cedric The Entertainer, THE BET HONORS will celebrate and recognize Alicia Keys (Entertainment), Tyra Banks (Media), Dr. Cornel West (Inspirational/Education), Richard Parsons (Corporate), the Honorable Maxine Waters (Government) and CEO Janice Bryant Howroyd (Entrepreneur).

The inaugural event will take place at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, January 12, and premiere on the network during Black History Month on Friday, February 22 at 8:00 p.m., ET/PT. Additional presenters and performers will be announced shortly.

"We are thrilled to present the first-ever BET HONORS and pay tribute to the thinkers, trailblazers and trendsetters whose accomplishments serve as inspirations for current and future generations," said Debra Lee, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, BET Networks. TYRA BANKS - Tyra Banks is a supermodel, host and judge of the reality television show America's Next Top Model, and is currently hosting her own Daytime Emmy Award-nominated talk show, The Tyra Banks Show.

JANICE BRYANT HOWROYD - Janice Bryant Howroyd is the chairman, chief executive officer and founder of ACT*1, a personnel servicing company that provides staffing, human resources and management solutions to Fortune 500 companies in many industries.

ALICIA KEYS - Alicia Keys is a Grammy Award-winning R&B and soul singer, songwriter and pianist, who has sold more than 25 million records worldwide.

RICHARD PARSONS - Richard Parsons is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Time Warner Inc., whose businesses include filmed entertainment, interactive services, television networks, cable systems and publishing. It was recently announced that he will be stepping down as CEO on December 31, 2007, but will remain as Chairman.

If she is being honored for being black, I also guess it's because she got so many white people to buy her music and promote her as some musical revolutionary.

I don't get the Keys award. I really don't.

Lemme say this, I'm black and I too was wondering why some of these people are being "honored." IMO, lets honor the people from back in the day who were GROSSLY overlooked and deserve to be honored before we honor Alicia Keys...(for what?)

I could understand tyra banks, cornel west, and a couple of others being
honored but i too don't understand why alicia keys was being honored in
her brief 2 yr career. Seriously, her latest album is garbage. I really listened
and could not find one track that i liked. Her second album was brilliant. The first album besides the radio singles was mediocre. So is
she being honored for her latest album, her recent grammy nominations or what.
I really am not understanding the hype machine behind alicia keys and she is a
decent artist considering what you have to work with nowadays but she isn't this musical giant that she's created to be and she certainly shouldn't be getting props for this mess of a album she has out now.
