Not impressed. True. It wasn't much more than an American Idol audition. But it wasn't bad IMO.

I wish Michael would get his shit together and do some performances like this, with a real band, with his voice IN SHAPE, no fancy shit....I gained a tad of respect for a certain female performer after watching this also. (Not naming names lol. ) (But, honestly, I still think all her music is a drag and boring...I just like her as a person a bit more now.) MJ Fan 1992-Forever

Not impressed. To me it was not that bad. Doing a cover of song that was done by MJ can be a little daunting...You are damned if you do, damned if you don't. If you try and put your on spin on it, people will say that you have f**cked it up, if you try and stick to the way it was done originally, people will say that you are playing it safe and lack the balls to take chances. So, you can't win. Me personally, never considered Ne-Yo to be a great singer...But, he is one hell of a writer. Also, I think the band that was backing them up, sucked. At times they sounded like they were playing something totally different to what was being sung. Yeah! Most of the time covers of Michael Jackson songs suck! His songs shouldn't be done by other people! That said though, I think Ne-Yo did a good job! [Edited 2/24/08 7:40am]

Ne-Yo is such a mediocre singer that he should not have tried to sing this song.
But if he was a better singer, his interpretation would have been much more interesting.

Well I guess I can understand why he would be apprehensive about singing PYT, but why would he be afraid to sing "Lady In My Life"? I've always wanted him to sing that song live though but I have to say that Ne-Yo did a pretty good job. Vanilli said: Exactly. Yeah, I would love for Mike to get rid of all that pyro technic shit and all that other over the top stuff and just do like an unplugged or acoustic version of his songs. I mean he has a great voice and doesn't need to do all that over the top stuff anymore, but I am really starting to doubt whether Mike will ever perform live again. I think he has a bad case of stage freight because this is like the second time he's pulled out of an award show in the past month or so. [Edited 2/24/08 11:55am] I dont know if this was a rumor but, remember the story that came out a few months ago about Prince giving MJ advice? It was said that Prince told Michael to do an entire unplugged concert. This Prince said, would revive MJ's career. Anybody remember that?
