If your talking about his "FuNkiest" Album I would agree OTW is better than Thriller...

But I just have a soft spot for Thriller. IMO it has stronger songs all around..Human Nature, Billie Jean, Thriller, PYT....Just Killer songs! cool

But...OTW is my Sh*t also! lol

Eh, they're both excellent. I think Thriller has higher highs ("Human Nature," "Billie Jean"), but Off the Wall is slightly more consistent. You can't go wrong with either. music

i quite agree with you off the wall is more consistant and thriller has bigger highs. great albums but i also slightly preferer off the wall

I totally bloody co-sign with EVERY last word you just said, right down to the exact songs you referenced. That being said, where do you feel Blood On The Dance Floor fits into the equation? You pointed in your post to meaning that HIStory was Michael's finest hour, however, Blood On The Dance Floor came after HIStory but pre-Invincible. Does this mean - you thought it was amazing, remixes included? I'd love to hear your in depth thoughts about BOTDF. New tracks and remixes.

I pretty much include BOTDF with HIStory. It's HIStory in the Mix. So HIStory and BOTDF go hand in hand IMO. But if I'm taking it as a separate album on its on, I still really like BOTDF. The originals are brilliant. The remixes are cool too. But IMO it's as much of an album as Thriller 25.

I'd just like to add, that I think most people who aren't big MJ fans will say that anything pre-Thriller is better than anything post-Thriller because after Thriller is when he started go "whacko". The earlier the better. The more normal he acted and looked the better his music is in the eyes of people who aren't really fans. Of course, some people (especially those into funk and 70s-style R&B) will like OTW better than any other MJ album. But for the most part I just feel like people say OTW is his best because he was at his least nuttiest when he made it.

You love "Girlfriend" but don't like "She's out of my life"?? How can you?? "Girlfriend" is on of the most cheesiest songs he ever sang... I hate that song... how can a Beatle come up with crap like this and then give it away?

When I put on Off The Wall, I usually start with "Girlfriend". shrug
It's a fine tune and quite poignant if you've ever been in a triangle situation like that.

if you think mikes 'girlfriend' is cheesy listen to the Wings version

Thriller and Invincible are what I call my 2 favourite albums from Michael. But it always depends what mood I am in. Sometimes I'll go on a Dangerous binge, or a Bad binge, etc...

I really don't think any are better than the others- they were all recorded years apart and written according to that time or period in his life. Each album is quite unique and each has a different flavour, which is what I adore about MJ's albums.

Off The Wall is incredible, but IMO I couldn't call it better than Thriller.

HIStory, I like because it is Michael Jackson. This is him pooring his heart out and telling us he really feels about certain things. And there is no real filler songs IMO. You Are Not Alone and Come Together seem not to really fit with the rest of the album. Unless you take Come Together as a statement about owning the Beatle's catalogue. But they aren't bad tracks none the less. This is Michael's opus IMO. And you have to be a fan, with a lot of admiration for the man, not just the music, to appreciate this album.

But as I said, IMHO, Michael got better with every album right up until Invincible. OTW < Thriller < Bad < Dangerous < HIStory. I'm not sure where Invincible fits into the ranking. If I'm being honest, unfortunately it probably goes right at the bottom of that list.

Little Susie and Smile are Mike pouring his heart out? Uggh please no.
My ranking would probably be in the reverse order to yours.

I know a lot of people wont agree with this, but IMO he kept improving and getting better with each album right up until invincible.

Off The Wall is cool. It's got a lot of decent tracks. It's fresh and still playable today. But Thriller trumps it IMO. Billie Jean, Beat It and Human Nature are enough by themselves to be better than the entire OTW album. I never skip any song on either album because they are short. This I like. But if I had an hour spare and I had two options to keep me entertained for that hour, OTW or Thriller, I'd likely put on Thriller.

Then there's Bad. IMO, which is not shared be many so called "credible" music critics and just general music listeners, it is better than Thriller. Billie Jean, Beat It, Human Nature, these songs are classic. But most of the time I prefer songs like The Way You Make Me Feel, Man in the Mirror, Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal, Leave Me Alone, Another Part of Me, Speed Demon... nearly the whole album is classic. There are a couple like I Just Can't Stop Loving You, Liberian Girl, Just Good Friends and Bad that are a little meh. But there only meh in comparison to the awesome songs on Bad. When on their own they're still awesome songs.

Dangerous, as a lot of fans will tell you, is Mike's finest hour. I would take his follow up over this one. But Dangerous still trumps everything he did prior to this. The only problem is that he's in the age of compact discs and so he's able to put more songs on the albums, which means more fillers. Depending on what mood you're in, there are no fillers on Dangerous. But I usually skip over Black or White, Heal the World, Keep the Faith and Gone Too Soon. Gone Too Soon can be good if you're in the mood for it. If you're in the mood, then Heal The World can be an amazing song. Depending on my mood, I can listen to HTW and think it's the greatest song ever. But I've never personally been in the mood for BOW of KTF. The only time I listen to BOW is when I'm watching the video. Because the video is too cool. But apart from the songs I mentioned, Remember the Time, Jam, Who Is It, Give in to Me, Will You Be There, In The Closet and so on are enough for me to say Dangerous is better than all his previous albums.

And then Invincible, yeh whatever. Way to break your winning streak Michael. Actually, I don't mind about half of the album. But it's not fair to judge this album since it was the result of a record company/recording artist fued. Sony wasn't letting Michael do what he wanted to do and Michael wasn't cooperating with Sony. The end result = Invincible.

But as I said, IMHO, Michael got better with every album right up until Invincible. OTW < Thriller < Bad < Dangerous < HIStory. I'm not sure where Invincible fits into the ranking. If I'm being honest, unfortunately it probably goes right at the bottom of that list.

You hit it right on the head here! I love all Michael's solo stuff, but if I could only keep one album, HIStory/BOTD would be it, no question.

I think Triumph should also be considered an MJ solo effort. He wrote all the best tracks and songs like Walk Right Now, Heartbreak Hotel, Lovely One and Can You Feel It are pure MJ. His brothers just do back-up.

This album is better than OTW IMO...

I agree wholeheartedly. There is nothing as atrocious as "The Girl Is Mine" on Off the Wall, nor is there anything as boring as "The Lady in My Life". I know that song gets a lot of love here, but not to these ears!

I do enjoy every song on Off the Wall.

I've only just bought "Off the Wall" last summer, so it's still relatively fresh and new to me (I knew the singles ofcourse...)

So at the moment it's definitely my favourite MJ album. "Thriller"'s brilliant, but a bit "over-familiar" if you know what I mean....

Again, it's a matter of taste and opinion. I love every track on Thriller- Lady In My Life is probably my favourite track.. It took me years to get into "I Can't Help It". Years. (now it's one of my faves btw) Just depends what floats your boat. smile

It's a Jacksons album. The only song they didn't feature heavily in was Heartbreak Hotel.
