WTF?!?! Sony & IFPI recertify MJ's albums; top 5 albums in history and a billion records sold in total From MJJC.
Sony & IFPI have recertified MJ's worldwide album and singles sales and official numbers are to be released soon. According to fans who claim to have the numbers before they are officially announced to the public, MJ now has the top 5 selling albums in history and his total record sales are now roughly a billion. These is now, apparently, the top 5 best selling albums in worldwide history.... 1. Michael Jackson - Thriller (104 million) 2. Michael Jackson - Dangerous (54 million) 3. Michael Jackson - Bad (52 million) 4. Michael Jackson - Off The Wall (51 million) 5. Michael Jackson - HIStory (50 million) ..... 6. Whitney Houston - The Bodyguard (42 million) It looks like BS to me. HIStory's number could be legit because for multi-disc albums over a certain length in time, each disc is 1 sale. So it could've sold 25 million copies, making it 50 million discs. That's not farfetched. And Dangerous and Bad were very, very popular and have sold a lot more than the outdated 1997 certifications by Sony. But I don't think they've sold quite that much. And now way has Off The Wall sold that much. There's no other source for these figures besides MJ fan forums so I guess we have to wait until Sony release the official figures to see if they are for real or not. Even then it's doubtful since the figures are coming from his record company, who want to promote him and his music.

Since you know this is bullshit, and anyone with a brain knows it's bullshit, why are you wasting our time with it? Have you read this?

http://prince.org/msg/3/260613 I don't know it's BS. I think it would be interesting to discuss. MJ's albums haven't been certified in ages. I'm interested to know what other people think his albums sales would be if Sony certified them now. What do you think would be the official numbers?

Which tells me, it's you who hasn't read it. At least not recently. But whatever, delete this if people are going to get uptight. I don't give a puck with a p. I just thought some mofos would be interested in this. It could be true. It's not that farfetched. [Edited 2/9/08 8:56am]

You know what I smell? I smell...BULLSHIT!
LOL! It's funny how they can claim the IFPI/Sony can really re-certify that stuff when in truth there's no real estimate if they in fact sold that much. [Edited 2/9/08 9:59am]

I don't have a fucking clue! It's sad how Michael's career has been all about sales. It's overshadow the thing that makes Mike great - his performances on record and on stage.

Record sales mean nothing. It's just money to the pimps in the music industry.
A product's sales are no indication of it's quality.

I agree, and this is largely his own fault. He has spent much of his post-Thriller career focusing mainly on record sales and being the "King of Pop".Many of his fans buy into the hype, and that's why we constantly have threads like this, lol.

i believe that thriller has sold around 55 - 60 mil records world wide and its the biggest selling album of all time and no one is going to catch him up. its a milestone and a curse at once because he was going for being popular after thriller instead of being the best he could be

Yep and the problem with that is that it'll probably continued until Michael says "shut the hell up about it and focus on my art", lol. He's too nice to say that though, lol.

I can´t estimate how much he could have sold, but I have been seeing and hearing about this 50 million figure for Thriller since the 80´s so it should be more, much more by now. Guiness certified it as 104 million sold recently, so who knows. [Edited 2/10/08 12:25pm] "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Yeah you could say that but I just don't know... I know Mike sold a massive amount of records but I don't know if all those numbers are accurate.
