Neil Young never won a grammy?Not even with Crosby Stills Young and Nash? Wasnt he in the YardByrds? When was the Grammys invented? Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I'm more shocked by two things on the list:
1) The Doors and Buddy Holly have also never won a Grammy 2) They somehow seem surprised that the likes of Jessica Simpson, 50 Cent, The Backstreet Boys, The Spice Girls, Ciara and Jewel have never won a Grammy, as if any of those artists have ever contributed anything remotely worthy of one. That not only cover Young's entire career but pretty much the entire span of pop music (until it's death this year!). IT's all about catogeries, which is dumb! I mean, people in "fringe" catogeries tend to win more, not to mention the fact that most catogeries come out possibly past their time. IMHO, The Doors are right down there with the Backstreet Boys and Jessica Simpson and all three are below the Spice Girls! Reffering to the original list, the fact that Diana and the Sumpremes do not have one is a crime. Who the hell was singing pop and/or R&B group singing awards back then instead? Now her solo career...I just bought a rather defintive two disc collection, and it's shady at best. She is often best doing upbeat songs but there seems to be waay too attention paid to the slow and sometimes silly ones. [Edited 2/8/08 18:27pm] | |

Backstreet, Jessica, and the Spices are all puppets- not that puppets can't record good songs that deserve acclaim, but I don't think any of those 3 have produced anything worth rewarding with a Grammy. Well though the Beatles won, i think they have 4 and i think 2 of them were for the Anthologies that came out in the re-issue categories and packaging. The thing with the Grammies is that it really caved in , when it got around to recognizing people like Dylan and McCartney etc later in their careers, people bitched that they were catering to the old timers and not to mainstream, and the Grammies caved in to the mainstream. Which i dont have an issue with if the MAINSTREAM was any good, the mainstream in the 70's and 80's was good but after that its been dead. And now the show is geared to an audience that is somewhere between the Vibe Awards and the AMA show, which makes no sense because neither of those shows get ratings, and kids dont watch this shit anyway. But the problem is now, everything is so bought and sold, that labels tend to just nominate the shit that sells for them, and is recognizable. I mean when i looked at the Best album category and didnt see Springsteen, Ryan Adams or McCartney, i was like, fuck this show. What's Going On alone should've swept all 3 of the big Grammy Award nominations (Album of The Year, Record of The Year, and Song of The Year) back in '71.
