I love Tom Petty. I really do, but that Halftime Show was boring as hell.

Same here. Purple Rian in the rain was a lot more exciting. smile

Tom's not flashy at all - just a straight up rock and roll dude. I did like that he did "Free Falling" - one of my fave TP songs. We gotta give him props, though - he's been around 30+ years and after all, he was a Traveling Wilbury. wink

You guys can blame Janet and Justin.Ever since their controversial performance, the half-time shows are gonna be "safe" and boring from now on lol They're gonna bring out tired old acts like Tom Petty.

Yeah i knew Tom was going to get shit like "oh hes boring" which is why i was surprised he did it, but than again, the check you get for it will make you deal with people saying "oh thats boring". As far as playing, the shit was tight, im not a huge Petty fan, i have a few of his records, but his band is on the ball. And im sorry people, last year Prince's perormance was Good, that was it, Good, i have seen him light years better than he was, his band was not good last year.

Thought it came off extremely well.

When the crowd started to sing in unison it was moving.

Tom Petty and his band including Mike Campbell are fantastic and sounded great on the harmonies.

He is not flashy by any means yet he writes better albums post 40 then most young bucks could at 20yrs old.

Who cares what he looks like... He is a musician.. you guys must want an entertainer like Akon who would lip sync and dance, cause that's more impressive than someone who plays an instrument and writes songs.

I thought Prince was good last year too.

falloff I don't know about u, but when "Free Falling" came on, I have to admit, I was headbang They had some good songs.

It was ok.

i would have been jumping out of my seat if he did refugee or don't come around here no more
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The problem is that, despite what they said, Tom Petty is not one of the biggest names in the history of rock. No disrespect to Tom, but you don't go from Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, and Prince to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

FWIW, even though I know it was from his solo album, I really wish he had done "You Don't Know How It Feels." Of course, it would've had to be edited... lol

Yeah, that would've sucked. lol I knew about Tom Petty. I actually like his stuff like "Don't Come Around Here No More" (remember that video where he was playing the Mad Hatter? evillol ).

I thought it was very much as entertaining as the Prince Halftime Show.....minus the cheesy poses and go-go dancers.

Well, to each his own Avenueman. I'm glad you liked it.

Trouble is, this is a Prince related forum so comparisons to P's performance last year are inevitable and he has the equivalent of a home field advantage so the majority of the posters here are going to prefer cheesy poses and go go girls over guys who just stand there and strum.

Maybe way down deep we're just shallow. smile

of course I meant to this point....

Please the game was far more impressive than tom petty and the old
fartbreakers. Anytime a defense like the giants can hold a bunch of arrogant
fuckers like the patriots to 7 points at halftime and hold them to 14 for the game and get beat by an ex steeler plaxico burress i'm going to
boogie

I thought it was backwards, Alicia Keys should've done the halftime show and Tom Petty the pregame. I mean god damn those stupid motherfuckers had Stevie Wonder doing the pregame, I was cool with that cause I can understand an older artist who's not contemporary then they hire Tom Petty, who's not only "older" but doesnt create excitement. Pluss even when he was in his prime he didnt have the success Stevie had. They still have some collateral left for Prince last yr so I dont hate them totally.
