Plus I think for Mr. Morris to portray later Marvin, his hair would have to be short, yes he would have to GROW a goatee/beard and he'll be fine like this:
I'm sure Morris was up for the role when it was first planned (if it was ever) 20 years ago but now? Plus Jesse Martin was probably the guy they felt could play Marvin. Both of them got incredible acting credentials so I'm not knocking down Greg but it won't be fair saying Jesse don't have a chance just 'cause you don't think they have a "resemblance". Hell, there were six different people playing Bob Dylan in some kind of recent film including a black kid and a woman (Cate Blanchett) so they (the film producers) don't really give a fuck. Actually, James Gandolfini, who will play Freddy Couseart, don't look nothing like Freddy either: But with the right makeup and the right 'tude to play Freddy (just like it will for Jesse to play Marvin), both of them can pull it off so it wouldn't exactly be unique. Damn, the more I'm talking about the Marvin biopic, the more excited I am to see it. I'm over the "why do they not show Marvin's scenes from the '60s and '70s?" LOL! It's not even an issue to me now. Little Amy, getting off the subject a bit, are you a fan of the Mighty Marvelous Marvin too?

Again, I didn't say anything about Jesse L. Martin's acting abilities -- just the fact Phil Morris has more experience.
The goatee thing is a little silly to me, because Morris can grow a goatee. The resemblance factor is not as much a sticking point but "all things being equal, I'm taking the actor who looks like the subject." It's definitely a bonus point, but the added experience makes it an even bigger advantage for Morris. Like I said, I would rather see Martin cast in a movie about Gaye's life from his Motown days (or earlier) forward to his death. This proposed movie isn't going to be music-oriented because of the time period, and I feel his skills from "Rent" would be more apt when recalling those images of Gaye wearing those skinny pants and dancing with the female background singers behind him. IMO, Morris seems to be better fit to be in a movie about an end-of-life Gaye. The resemblance, the profile, the acting experience and the fact the movie isn't going to be music-centric (at least in the full scope of Gaye's career) makes me say he's the better choice. If they're not gonna include the Motown years, this biopic is gonna suck. It'll be a half-baked,incomplete story.Marvin deserves better than that.

Motown would make a huge mistake in not getting involved in this. Then again, why stop messing up now? Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Motown would make a huge mistake in not getting involved in this. Then again, why stop messing up now? I really hate Motown for that shit. They could at least not be so overprotective over their shit. That's why a Supremes movie will never be made! They insist they're gonna do biographies of both. Well, I haven't seen both yet. What about that stupid miniseries they were gonna do?

What about that stupid miniseries they were gonna do? But if they let someone else do it, then it might portray Motown's relationship with Marvin Gaye (against releasing What's Goin' On) and the Supremes (can't say much here that common sense would tell us) to light. And that would strip even more veneer off the Motown brand. As if Motown hasn't done enough to do that already. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
