New MORRISSEY Single!

Morrissey is set to release a greatest hits album in early 2008.

The 15-track collection, out February 4, will be proceeded by the release of brand new single 'That's How People Grow Up' on January 28.

The song was produced by Jerry Finn who produced 2004's comeback LP 'You Are The Quarry', and will be backed by live versions of:
'The Last Of The Famous International Playboys',
'The Boy With The Thorn In His Side'
and 'Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself'.

The former Smiths singer is currently working on a new studio album with Finn, which he is planning to release in the autumn of next year.

The quarry was his greatest album.

Far too early to release a best of though.

I couldn't get into the ringleader album though

I loved the version of "Sunny" as it was the first time that I'd heard it- remember the days before internet leaks!?
http://www.youtube.com/wa...xWswbDPCj8
But the interview kind of made me cringe- he looked as if he didn't want to do it...nice suit though!
I went to see him a while after this supporting David Bowie- that was a perfect night cool

Yeah it was a strange time for Moz..Wasn't he on two record labels at the same time or something? He released Boy Racer and Sunny as singles at almost exactly the same time. Very odd.

Great songs though.

I always thought Sunny was kind of one that came in under the radar and has been almost forgotten from his catalogue.

Oh yeah - Nice suit indeed!

Yeah- Sunny was on Parlophone while Boy Racer was on RCA- it was a strange time to be a fan especially after "Vauxhall and I" being hailed as his best- it was like he gave up...personal life was a nightmare apparently!
Bless- I do love Maladjusted after this time and think that that also was overlooked..."Trouble Loves Me" is great.

He'd signed a one album deal with RCA, but still owed EMI a single. They released Sunny (which was originally going to be the fourth song on the Boxers EP - promo copies exist with it on) and two Vauxhall & I outtakes, Black Eyed Susan (originally on promo tapes of Vauxhall (but not the CDs) and scheduled to be a third B Side on The More You Ignore Me single)and swallow on my Neck (another Vauxhall outtake).

RCA released The Boy Racer in the UK to coincide with Morrissey's support slot on Bowie's Outside tour, and EMI released Sunny a week later. Both got into the lower reaches on the top 40.

I don't like the new single. Dull.

I have one more thing to add:

RELEASE "INTRODUCING MORRISSEY" ON DVD DAMNIT! mad

For me, that is the high point of his career so far. Touring the best album (Vauxhall) with his best drummer (Spencer - f*cking superb skinsman!) and some other favourites thrown in for good measure.

I want this on DVD so badly! bawl

I loved when "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get" went straight to number 8, then the follow up "Hold Onto Your Friends" reached only 49!!!

I actually like the new single- didn't at first, but it has an optimistic quality to it that's growing on me and has to better than something like "Ruby" by Kaiser Chiefs etc.

I love when the feedback from the end of "The National Front Disco" bleeds into the beginning of "Moonriver"- sends shivers up and down my spine.
I saw him play a similar set in Cambridge and touched his hand during "Now My Heart Is Full" biggrin

Since around the Vauxhall And I album his voice seems to have taken on a richer quality - he has grown into his vocal chords maybe!

I know- tracks like "Wide To Receive", "Come Back To Camden" and "Dear God, Please Help Me" are so heartfelt in their delivery.
But it was always there in stuff like "Well I wonder", "I Know It's Over" and "I've Changed My Plea To Guilty"

I'll give it another listen.

He should have released Now My Heart Is Full as a UK single. That would have been a Top 5 hit. It's such a beautiful, rousing song. Typical Moz. Hold On To Your Friends was an album track not a single.

He sounds like Scott Walker's cousin now, which is a good thing. Although I keep on buying them, I don't like more than seven songs on the albums he's made since the underrated Southpaw Grammar. In fact, so underrated is that album, that Moz has taken to introducing the songs he occasionally plays this: "this is from an album none of you liked. It's called Boy Racer/Reader Meet Author/Teachers".

I agree- sitting there waiting to be released was "Now My Heart Is Full", "Billy Budd" etc, etc...no wonder it failed to chart- I like the track now, but at the time resented it's release- ha,ha,ha!
