What does it sound like? It's getting very good reviews and is among the top 5 most acclaimed albums of 2007. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! this album was a big favourite of mine from last year as well. i would have never thought to compare them to the arcade fire, but now that you've mentioned it i have to admit they've got a similar feel, though i don't think the national are nearly as bombastic.
the national's vocalist is an absolute dead ringer for stuart staples from the tindersticks, if anybody remembers them. edit - well, dead ringer might be overstating it a touch, but there's a similarity for sure. [Edited 1/26/08 18:22pm]

Uhm, after reading such hot reviews of people whom's taste I respect, I cannot wait to get my hands on this.
