Let me explain a little bit.

I often feel like MJ was a bit like Motown. A tremendous amount of talented vocalist's mixed with brilliant songwriters, played in the studio by monster session players. He was a pop phenom, never a musician's darling. Although he did employ some great studio cats.

But I truly feel and some will disagree that the brilliance of a MJ song stopped after Dangerous.

And believe me I gave him a 2nd chance after the Oprah interview.

But I just don't see that brilliance anymore.

In his rare appearances I have not heard him sing, I have seen him dance the same old moves he used in 83.

I feel he went back to the well one too many times.

Then add in my negative feelings towards his personal life and it makes the whole experience not even worth it.

I am able to avoid him all together except for this board which sometimes over credits artists like Janet, MJ, and Mariah who are shadows of their pasts in the pop world. Their peak is light years better than today's Akon's and etc, but still not pushing any new boundaries.
Then take into account the songs are not as good, with fading skills in the vocal range, and I prefer to avoid them.

Sorry I will be skipping this album, like I have skipped everything since History, that I got caught up in the hype for.

You remind me of those Prince fans who write farewell letters on the other forum. biggrin

While you might disagree, there are those who respect MJ as a popular musician and vocalist. My professors, some of whom are well-known and respected concert pianists and violinists, sure do.

You are right. His commercial and critical peaks have passed. However, he still has numerous fans around the world. While you are tired of him, there are others who still respect him and are excited for whatever he releases. I am not blind to expect another Off the Wall or Dangerous. But even Invincible had fantastic tracks in addition to the mediocre and awful ones. I look forward to those songs which made me love his music in the first place.

And no one is asking you to buy Thriller 25 or the new album if it is ever released. Just ignore the MJ, Madonna, Janet, and Mariah threads on this forum.

I think Michael started to go down hill in earnest when he quite literally sold his soul to the devil(I mean how else does one sound more soulful age 12 than age 35) and decided he didn't want to be Michael Jackson anymore but the King of Pop, instead ! And that had happened by Bad and since then his music and his personal issues just got progressively worse. Albums like Dangerous where he wanted to be all things to all people, literally, just sound messy to me and albums like History is just a load of shouting and whining, with the exception of the wonderful Stranger in Moscow.

I guess now, for him to go forward he needs to go backward with this big anniversary of the 25th Anniversary of Thriller, hence all the promotion and fuss .

While I disagree with your assessment of Dangerous and HIStory, I am hopeful that songs like Break of Dawn and Butterflies -- reminiscent of his earlier work -- appear on his new album.

I did that 11 years ago. That was the last time I purchased anything with his name on it. Go and see if you can find me on any of the million Thriller 25 threads before this one. You won't be able to find me 'cos I wasn't there. I couldn't care less about this project or the endless speculation about his latest activities. Just 'cos I smack you guys around every now and then, doesn't mean I'm interested in your messiah's every bowel movement.

I don't think he was addressing you in particular. Pappaisaway is one of the sane MJ fans on the org. He is cool.

Here are the most recent MJ threads. The one on top is the official Thriller 25 thread. It goes on for about 7 pages and as you'll see, I'm not on there. Know why? 'Cos I couldn't give a shit about the project. lol But it's good to know I've made such an impression on you that you imagine my presence even when I'm nowhere in sight. Your papa's obviously been away for far too long. Now you're starting to fixate on men you've never even seen. lol Just send me a love letter and get it over with already.

You need to learn how to read. The post you originally responded to was talking about people following his latest moves as if it was still 1992. That's silly to me, and I don't waste time with it. However, when it comes to pouring water on your fantasy fires, that's another matter. I'm always happy to dowse you guys with some reality whenever you start exhibiting signs of delusion, which let's face it, is pretty darn often. Although I'm starting to suspect you enjoy the rough treatment, as you're always calling out to have some of it targeted your way. You've probably paid good money in some very seedy places for less humiliation than this. I should start charging you. lol
