"Say Maceo. ...They tried to describe funk. I don't know. If u can describe it - it ain't funky."

The book is GREAT though.
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.

I like his view on the music from a social/economic/cultural stand point. A must read.

I read it all the time, too. In fact,I always use it for thread ideas on the Org wink It's an excellent book. Some of the record reviews (by the author) puzzle me,though. For example, read his review of Earth Wind and Fire's 'All N' All' album nuts

Yea, some of the reviews are nuts, plus I hate it that like 50-60% of the album reviews only have a grade listed and no comments AND the book is missing quite a lot of artists/bands smile
Other than than, very informative and interesting. Helped me build up my collection, most definitely. Some of his 'Essential Album' picks (10/10) are quite odd... 'The Last Poets' and 'essential funk album'?!? That album has nothing to do with funk, imo lol
Same as, Herbie's 'Future Shock'... an essential funk album? I think not lol

It sits by my bed. Required if not essential reading for those "funkless" individuals. Or anybody just wanting to know more about the funk. Also check out Crosstown Traffic by Charles Shaar Murray. Not about funk really but the times that created it. It's mainly about Jimi Hendrix. Mainly.
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I have both of those albums, I just don't consider either as essential 'funk' listening lol

In any case, the original TLP cover reeks of funk.
