The adds date was cancelled (it would have debuted on Z100 at least by Tuesday the 15th if it was going for adds on the 29th, anyway).

Stop it. Really. Not everything is done as a response to something else. Today's artists might be into one-upping, but Janet is above that.
The stand-out track was probably Tonight, a bubbling club track which can only be Jackson's response to Rihanna's Don't Stop The Music.

this is seriously doing my head.
Mariah wanted her single out by the end of last year, and now the lable voted That Chick as the better choice, so what's causing the delay? Is it that Mariah's been rooting for Touch My Body ever since and still can't convince them? or that she's hesitant herself. I remember with the last project how Reid wanted Say Somethin' as a lead off and she opposed him, then he wanted it again but she fought for Shake It Off. hmmm

I think its more than labels just sucking, the fact is that they cant handle more than one thing at a time for the most part. With the economy headed for a recession, that is coming into play with label thinking in every case. Its not the 80's anymore when you could have everyone out at the same time competeting, labels dont like to compete anymore, they look at whats going on with other labels and alter their releases, they look at their own label and make sure they dont have two similar artists at the same time. I think more or less they are waiting to see what goes on with Janet's record before they throw the Mariah one at there, JD and LA can talk about "diva battles" but at the end of the day economy rules. With Janet out at the end of February they probably feel Early April is enough lapse of time before Mariah, but at the same time they dont wont to kill anyones "flash" and if Janets record pulls a few hit singles across the board than the last thing you want is to put the Mariah record out there at the same time, and hype it up and almost kill off your other product. Though loyal fans will buy both, labels are looking beyond "loyals" with these two releases, especially for the $$ they are putting in, whether its marketing, airply, media, or just getting the production they wanted, they need to sell big to make profit, label wise. another review from Australia:
27/1/08 A CHART battle is looming for Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson . Jackson will release her new album Discipline, on Feb 26, Carey's long player, tentatively titled I'm that chick is due on April 1. And judging by new tracks previewed at a Melbourne listening session last week, Mimi will blitz. Carey beats, lyrics, and vocal delivery are superior. Mimi's new songs are about love, lust, being played and her breakdown - or her "breakthrough" as a Carey describes it. Touch my body , shortlisted as the first single, hints at a new celebrity must have - a sex tape. "If there's a camera up in here then i'd best not catch this flick on YouTube" Carey warns. "If you run your mouth and brag about this secret rendezvous I will hunt you down" Collaborating producers include Jermaine Dupri, Polow Da Don, Stargate, Danja, Tricky Sterwart and The Dream By comparison, the new Janet is geared to the clubs. With Timbaland's succesful electro experiments, US urban is moving towards chunkier beats and house. Yet Jackson's new tunes fail to repeat past glories. Her dance tracks are overproduced, the ballads are banal. "My body's here, it's soaking wet, I wanna give you something you won't forget", Janet sings on Tonight. "Ain't you curious, don't you wanna know, how deep my love can go? Don't resist the fight, do it all night"

I call bullshit. First of all, the song was removed from the adds schedule. Second of all, why in the world would they premiere it at some random pisspot Modesto station? This track will premiere on Z100 or KIIS.

Note: In a call made to KHOP, DJ Madden confirmed the premiere of Mariah's new single (asked what the title is, she said, "Can't tell you yet.") tomorrow, January 29th during the morning show, The Morning Paper with Jack & Reagan, 5am-9am Pacific time.
On MariahDaily.com. just to confirm the source.

This album has all the signs of being delayed. Labels cant handle more than one album at a time and they will be focusing thier attention on the janet CD for at least a few months. To me April 1st seemed to early to begin with and to close to Janet's, thats really only a 4 week window between her and Janet. Now if this was the 80's that wouldnt matter and everyone would be out all at once, but those days are gone. April 1st is also bad because Easter and breaks fall early this year, Easter is the 23rd and the break is right after, schools are back in by April 1st and after easter you generally see retail sales go down again, before picking up in May-June. My guess, and the best bet would be get this album out in May or June, give people something for the summer. Another update:
someone e-mailed the station, got this reply: Please spread the word that it was Def Jam, not KHOP that delayed it's release. It's called "Touch My Body"

It's called "Touch My Body" I wonder if they are still debating over what song to release. It seems like there is a little friction their, i noticed this back when the MIMI dvd came out last year and Universal had nothing to do with its release, it was a seperate deal with Mariah and Redline (which is owned by Best Buy, they also put out Rainbow Children for Prince) "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

You guys are pretty much on point as far as who would get the premiere single. Z100 and KIIS FM would be the most logical choices because they are the largest and most influential pop radio stations on the east and west coast respectively, and B96 in Chicago has a long history of being the biggest Mariah supporters in the midwest, if not the nation; plus their music director Eric Bradley is thisclose to Mariah on a personal friendship level, so she would show him some love as far as music releases go. So if this is being delayed, it's most definitely on the part of Def Jam trying to leverage their most valuable artists in a shrinking market. It sucks for all of us fans of Mariah that we have to wait even longer for her album to come out, but a release closer to summer may actually be better buzz for her.
