I've heard Barry's new album - Back to the Cat. It's absolutely superb. I think it's the best thing he's done to date.

It's ten tracks of some of Barry's most accessible music to date. Take all the elements you enjoyed from his previous albums and blend them into one and you've got an idea what Back to the Cat sounds like.

It's like a big band in hell sound, with Barry as Beelzebub Goodman. Strong funk, soul and dub elements abound. Usual killer lyrics - profound, funny, surreal.

My favourites on here are Straight Til Sunrise, Spend A Little Time (you can beat this will have the ubiquity of Jazz Devil), I Could Love You (a great soul number - Barry even does a falsetto), Walk on Fire, Flight and People. They're among the best songs he's ever written. And that's just half the album.

Wow I still remember you turning me on to this guy years ago. (Much props See? I give credit when credit is due for reccomendations passed!) I bought everything except his last lp. I will have to check out his last and this one to catch up. Yea, I reccomend Adamson for everyone reading. Graycap is right and I can cosign. Even though he's wrong on Mahaffey that's okay we won't hold it against him. I guess I will buy his new album.

I'm surprised more established acts aren't going that route. iTunes downloads cost 79p per track. Writer/publisher get 6p, Performer 6-8p, Visa/Mastercard 7p, Apple 12p, and Record Company almost 50p.

Ohhh here we go:

Barry shall be pinned. This will show up in Google search as well. So I hope Barry's distributor is paying attention when the CD eventually hits the stores.

Anything to stop another Madonna post from being pinned. "Madonna changes her hair color to AUBURN! "

*rant manifesto soapbox melodramatic self righteous moment*

In case you didn't tell I am in disagreement of turning Prince org's Music Discussion board into a quasi Perez Hilton/Media Take out celeb sess pool of oversaturated clear channel AUTO TUNED whores. Yes, I did say that. That shit needs to stop. If I was moderator I'd make every madonna/michael jackson/janet post consolidated.

*rant off*

And now back to our program.

Walk On By with Orchestra:
http://www.youtube.com/wa...UV1zwGci-4

wouldn't you love to see Barry perform at Showtime at the Apollo as a joke? Those people would be booing for days as soon as Barry started singing the first syllable. it's such a startling contrast. A black man doing a symphonic soul standard (Written by Jim Webb but Immortalized forever by Hayes in his epic)

It takes balls to do what he does though. To realize "I know I am not a singer but I have a presence vocally so f u" And to make this controversial. He sounds vocally better than these Karoke clear channel divas with the AUTO TUNE. lol

I was at the above gig. It was great. Thought he gave Walk On By a really sinister twist - "You left me, baby, I'm sad .... and I'm going to kill you, if you don't Walk On By".

Here's Nick Cave's appearance at the gig:

Wow that's cool. Mute should have saved every penny and filmed that Concert for Barry. Look at the work he gave that damn label. He is owed a Performance DVD at least. And it was with a orchestra too. You know how long he probably waited for that?
I think I know why Barry is putting the new lp out himself. Similar to Trent's situation only a tad different. Barry probably is owed sooo much on every project he put out. And ever since the internet boom and the multimedia experiments that Barry used to connect with his fans,I would guess Mute got some spike in numbers that could help Barry.

BTW, have you heard his early work with Magazine? I keep hearing about that band and how I have to check it out.

self righteous rant mode on*

It's amazing how so many people are swayed by a visible corporate logo and a music award nomination. And yet all the artists/producers out there they never mention him. You would think after 10 years someone would be like "You know, we gave alot of attention to Marilyn Manson and Tricky and his smoked out ass,but I really have to reccomend Barry Adamson.

You know who Im surprised who hasnt mentioned Barry? David Bowie. Because Bowie mentions artists on any label. If a CDR was handed to him he would mention how fantastic this group was in a interview if he thoroughly enjoyed what he was hearing. But as the rest of these douche bags, it's really revealing. Bowie has to know Adamson. In fact if he produced Bowie's next work? People would be going ballistic. Every BA fan knows it too. So David if you are reading this, give Barry a call and I am sure he has time for you in his schedule.

*self righteous mode off*

That last bit is probably going to veer off into a whole other discussion why Artists don't mention him who know him and listen to him. Didn't his medical bills nearly wipe BA out? It's getting hard to respect any aspect of this business. No health care plan A-MAZING.

That's true to an extent. Some people need constant reminders. And this is the exhausting part of promotion or support. But Adamson needs support for his projects. I will purchase the download.

I think Barry's doing his first ever "world tour" this year, including shows in the US.

That's great. Maybe we should trick Madonna into thinking Barry Adamson is trendy and the "innovator" Then she will talk up his music and act like she was hip to him before ANNNNNYONE and she discovered him. And yes I just posted this response so Barry will be on Page 1. lol As long as it registers on Google that's all that matters. I cant take a full board of Mariah/Janet/Michael/Madonna
