He released an album somewhat recently under the name SANADA (or close to it). It's an alright album. But if you're looking to hear the 'old' TTD forget it..Worth a listen though...

Hes still around!!

Last October, he brought out a new CD called Wildcard, using the name Sananda Maitreya!! But it was only available in about 4 or 5 countries, Germany being one of them, cos a freind of mine in Berlin sent me a copy as it was not available in the UK, due to him not being able to sever his ties with Sony Music in some countries, like the UK and the USA!!
Yet another one discontented with the corporate music machine!!!

I agree, Symphony or Damn was THE album of that year.
Since then he did Vibrator which had some great moments, and he also released Wildcard in various forms (including for free online, which was very nice of him) and it really is worth a listen.

I gather he's been gigging a bit in small venues around Europe. You can find out more at http://www.sanandapromotion.com

I'm such an idiot...

I saw the Symphony or Damn album used for a 1.99 and I didn't even pick it up because I said "I was tired of spending money on records I can rip off the net." But that album is so scarce that you can't find it on the web. So if I see it around the next time, I'll pick it up.

There's a video on TTDA site (you can either stream it or download it), and also a little sentence you won't find on the NPGMC site :
"Sananda invites YOU to make pictures, videos
and recordings at his concerts,"
See what i mean rolleyes ...

You can also listen & purchase a new version of his lattest album "Wildcard" on the site.
Here's the explanation :

"Dearest friends,
here for your listening pleasure is the final edition of 'WILDCARD'.
I'm calling it 'THE JOKER'S EDITION' to differentiate it from the previous edition.
'THE JOKER'S EDITION' shall also come with these 19 songs
(a slightly different song line-up) as well as new packaging and photos, etc.
I hope you enjoy it!
It's been a very hard road but I believe in persevering with what you have faith in,
I also believe very much in these songs.
The old version is still being illegally exploited by Universal-Germany who are selling surplus copies to unlicensed territories at mark-down prices and they have also been less than honest with regards to the number of CDs sold in order to avoid paying money's due.
I guess it's all in a day's work for these cold hearted corporate thieves. It's also shamefull.
This new version however is free and clear of all that and I offer it to your ear from my heart!
Bless you!

Sananda"

Hey, who knows where he is playing in November? I have read somewhere (not even sure if it was here on the org) that he is playing at a venue on the 22 November in London. Please, can anyone help me out as to where?!

Supernova, I definitely agree with you! I don't think Me'Shell has done anything to date that eclipses Plantation Lullabies. I still throw that one in the CD player frequently.

That album just hits so hard, on so many levels, it's just not to be f*** with. A modern day classic. It's funk, it's soul, it's jazzy, it's got the spirit of Mayfield, Gil Scott-Heron, clear-cut musicianship, earthy bass lines, great vocal harmonies, electric piano, pure OLD SCHOOL punch thrown down by a new schooler with an old soul. And it has some of the best prose you'll ever hear in music. I couldn't take it out of my cd changer for an entire year and a half after I bought it almost a year after its release. At that point it made me feel three different ways: it made me miss Prince's creative heyday, it made me tell everybody I could about this new kid on the block, and it made me ecstatic I found somebody who could carry the old school torch with integrity and SKILLS.

Yeah, that Plantation Lullabies...it's OK. biggrin

Best album from '93 was Bjork's Debut.

Symphony or Damn was cool too tho',
and Kate Bush's The Red Shoes.
