no this isnt a political statement its a musical climate statement. Thanks to an org.note i was sent a few hours it may me think of this topic. Without leveling the playing field again, music will always suffer the way it is now, and continue to drop. The limitations are being more and more obvious, and its all connected, the disappearance of music retail big stores and small ones, big box stores slimming down their stock 30-40%, doesnt it seem like the choice is becoming very narrow. I told someone a story about how when i did Music Retail at one point they made us play certain things, certain "hot sellers" well most places followed the rules, but i never did, there was no way i was going to play things people were buying anyway, so instead of playing the same stuff 24/7 we would play what we thought people should get into, and it worked, they still bought their new release, but they were also buying Van Hunt or Rashaan, or Jaquar Wright or Jill Scott or Norah or Ryan Adams, basically we were doing what radio has no balls to do. Imagine if this "thought" went on everywhere, imagine Mtv thought like this, imagine radio thought this way, their would be a real music revolution. But things as i see are going nowhere fast, i look around here in NYC, and just got word that other music stores are closing here and its sad because in reality, its going to further limit people and yes it will affect everything at some point.
