With all due respect to Rick James, APB was the real Punk/Funk!

That's right, folks, this great band from Aberdeen, Scotland is the real thang. Rick had his Punk/Funk thang, but he brought the attitude. But APB had the best of both worlds: The raw energy and flavor of Punk and the nasty grooves of the funk! They worshipped Bootsy as much as they did The Clash, or JB as well as Gang of Four. And those sounds can be manifested in such songs as "Shoot You Down", "Rainy Day", and "Palace Filled With Love". For the curious minds, check out their simgles compilation from 1985 called "Something To Believe In". There's a remastered edition out now with a CD of bonus tracks too.

APB was true Punk/Funk. wink

I hear your point..but based on those samples..
Ricks Funk will kill them !
I think Ricks "Punk/Funk" concept was still filtered through "THE BLACK EXPERIENCE" It was still Funky ! He added the PUNK to say.."we have a wild rebel attitude with our funk !
Its not Musical as much as it was his whole Attitude towards his music..
I cant Imagine any soul brothers getting down Hard and Heavy to APB..so while they had a drop of funkyness.."and I do mean a small drop"..they cant touch Rick !
confused

I know Rick would whipped them. But I'm pretty sure that they were inspired by the Punk/Funk superfreak. Bu Rick had the funk but with a punk attitude and aesthetic. APB's approach had more to do with the fusion of the styles. The energy of The Buzzcocks with the nasty grooves of George Clinton was APB's bread and butter. Same with other bands like Gang of Four, The Clash (in their later years), The Au Pairs, etc.
