Your Top 10 albums for 2007!

Let's see some lists!!!!!
I've been doing one for years.
It started when i worked in music retail,
and after moving over to the business side of things
a lot of industry people e-mail their lists to each other.
it's fun to see what everyone liked for the year.

So let's see yours!
Only a couple of rules to try and make it relevant.
It has to have been released in 2007.
Usually re-issues and compilations don't really count either,
but what the heck.

I'll start.

So. I have to open with the notation that
i got the Amy Winehouse on import last year.
so, i can't include it on this year's list like a lot of people are.
otherwise that would've easily been my 1.

So, here's the deal.

10. The Magic Numbers - Those The Brokes
I absolutely adore this band. I listen to them, and i'm happy.

9. Jill Scott - The Real Thing (Words and Sounds Vol. 3)
C'mon. It's Jill Scott. Of course she made the list.

8. Tracey Thorn - Out Of The Woods
I never tire of her voice. Never ever.

7. Jonatha Brooke - Careful What You Wish For
Okay, so i'm somewhat biased by the fact that i've been not so secretely in love with her for years but that's besides the point.

6. Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals - Lifeline
They went right off of the road, and into the studio for what is one of their finest efforts to date. Bravo, Ben.

5. Roisin Murphy - Overpowered
That thing i said about Tracey Thorn? Ditto with Roisin. Love her. Would love another Moloko project.

4. Nino Moschela - The Fix
I hadn't heard anything about this guy and the cd i got was a gift from a friend, and i ended banging this record for the entire year for the most part.

3. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - 100 Days, 100 Nights
Easily my favorite show of the year, and one of the most played cd's of the year for me. No brainer.

2. Lily Allen - Alright, Still
Just a fun ass record with catchy ass hooks. Probably the second most requested artist at Groovelounge right behind.....

1. Mark Ronson - Version
This record should've been called "Genius". Because it was. I'd have bought this for the Britney Spears cover alone, but you throw in an Amy Winehouse AND a Lily Allen track? 1. Period.

Best shows of the year:
The Magic Numbers @ Michigan Theater
Sharon Jones & Dap Kings - Magic Stick

Biggest Disappoinment:
PRINCE. Your album SUCKED and you've lost your mind.

Did anything come out in 07 that wasn't a reissue?

Just kidding.

The albums that I purchased (and liked) that I liked for 07 (in no particular order).

Mary J. Blige - Growing Pains
Angie Stone - The Art of Love and War
Joss Stone - Introducing
Rhianna - Good Girl Gone Bad
Keyshia Cole - Just Like You

I can't think of any albums form guys that I liked this year. All of the major releases by men were very disappointing (as a whole) (PE included).

wow... that'd be a whole nother list biggrin

Chaka Khan's FUNK THIS
effortlessly shits on
everything that came out this year

but I discovered some rarities
(as I'm always doing)

like The Pointer Sisters'
first two albums (WOW is all I have to say)

Phoebe Snow's first album (once again WOW)

there was one particular thread here
that sparked an interest in me
for the Jamaica Queens artists of the
late 70's early 80's
Tom Browne, Bernard Wright...

I discovered so much music this year
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

I can see how it would alienate some fans. It was a huge risk, and I admire that. I really like the piano and minimalism, so this album is right up my alley.
