TTD was cool...but I always thought that he tried too hard to be Prince. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Where they are alike is in appearance and persona ... • They look alike • They both are somewhat feminine • They both had record-label feuds • They both changed their names to something weird (TTD became Sananda Maitreya)

Exactly, IMO he never ever tried to be Prince . Sorry but look at that very same video posted above. The hat screams of Under The Cherry Moon. The little dance routine with the white puffy shirt...? The somber doe-eyed gaze into the camera...? I'm not saying he was trying to clone Prince...obviously he didn't...but his whole demeanor "screamed Prince" to me. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Sananda has always done his own thing. Although "This Side of Love" was not a favorite of mine, its a good track. Way ahead of its time. He could drop that now and it would catch on with people.

Look at the Vibrator footage and you won't see any ressamblance. I have seen both of them live in concert a lot and they are so very different. I even had the impression that Sananda tried to not dress/act like Prince on stage just that nobody might think he would imitate him. They have a lot in common.
They both pretend to like chicks. look like Bratz dolls. have sharp looking teeth. probably reek of lavender. get bikini waxes. love their Arabian prince eyeliner. like to eyebang cameras. They're practically twins except for the fact that Terence sucks and changed his name to something that sounds like a Hyundai model.

Odd choice for a lead single but a good track nonetheless.

Great tune, I couldn't remember at first, but it's coming back to me. That album was really good, maybe just a little weird at the start and it turned people off.
But this song is a pretty straight forward pop tune. I remember reading back then Robert Cray said his favorite song of the moment was To Know Someone Sweetly is to Know Someone Softly My Legacy

the killer song of that album is roly poly man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I liked it a lot though. | |

i know a lot of folks say that but i just don't see the comparison beyond them both being fair skinned skinny black men with lots of hair. I think their music is very different, Terence always had a harder rock/soul (ie classic?) style. And Terence has always come across as more well read. But there are definitely similar elements. Some things are direct, some more philosophical in nature. Directly, I remember hearing the beginning of the song Feels So Good To Love Someone Like You and thinking the strings were straight out of Around the World or Parade. The Terence BG vox often sound "purple" that is lush w/lots of falsetto (the layered self-performed bg vox is kind of a Prince trademark, though everyone does it now). They definitely walk similar musical ground at times (Holding Onto You & The Morning Papers, CYFMLAY is super Prince sounding) blending lots of styles. And just scroll up to that album cover, if that's not Prince I don't know what is! Indirectly I think Prince inspired Terence to take chances, to not conform to people's expectations, to not limit one's self to one instrument/style, to be generally goofy, to use lots of sexual innuendo (Vibrator & T.I.T.S. are good examples), of course the name change. Terence's failing was that he wasn't as established a superstar when he took all those chances. It really hurt his career. you could say Prince's career was hurt but he was a guaranteed legend by 1985. [Edited 1/3/08 16:55pm] My Legacy

My favorite on this album and one of his all-time best! "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
