I think getting hung up on decades is silly. Musical origins and innovators are far more interesting imo.

After starting out about different decades, actually it seems that now this thread is slowly turning into more about musicality overall and and musical technology.

The 80's then the 60's. The 70's for music like Parliament and Led Zepplin, but radio in the 70's bit the big one.

I think good music typically transcends its era though. Anything that is typically 80's or 70's or whatever that can be instantly identified with that decade or compiled on a hits compilation I think gets tired and less interesting with age.

Listen to an early Eurythmics album or a New Order one. They were creating sounds and juxtaposing seemingly contradictory emotions very deftly. !

Sorry. There's really no
interest in this beyond academic
discussion. I've totally shot my
wad on the 80s.

Hey, Pfunkjazz. Come on, dude. You can't say everything in the 80's sucked. Did you ever listen to the 2-Tone Ska artists, like Madness, The Specials, The Beat, etc.? That was some good music.

"Sweet Dreams" is on a lot of 80s compilations.

You know what I mean. Give me Prince over Eddie Grant any day. Or Kraftwerk over M. You get the idea.

Not much for ska. Especially it's late 70s revival, cuz it was a British derivative. In general (BEATLES are cool), I ain't too keen on Brits colonializing music. They tend to find the good, but make it bad and ugly after awhile.

When it comes to Rock music, throughout the mid-late 60s on thru the 70s, I think the Brits outdo their American counterparts (overall) with music born on American soil. With this subject I haven't really thought about the 80s when it comes to strictly Rock music...but from the 1990s my favorite Rock group is a Brit band called RADIOHEAD.
