I'm not a big fan of this song, but I like the acoustic version better. Still don't love it. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

Are you serious? I mean, if I had to rank every Madonna song I ever heard, this would be in the bottom 5 or 10. In fact, half of "American Life" would easily be in the bottom 20. I mean, I'm not dissing you. I'm just surprised.

American Life could've been a double sided single with "Die Another Day" and "Easy Ride" on it, and I'd have been happy. I've never hated a Madonna record as much as I hate(d) that one. Honestly, there might be more cringeworthy lyrics per song on that disc than on any other album ever.
"Mother and Father" is a perfect example of that... "My father had to go to work/I used to think he was a jerk" "There was a time I was happy in my life/there was a time I had a mother/it was nice" Even half decent songs like 'Love Profusion' are ruined by the ridiclious title (honestly, who would ever use the phrase Love profusion?), and half baked lyrics like "I know I can feel bad/when I get in a bad mood". I've never been one of those people that thought Madonna's collaborators wrote her lyrics for her, but the lyrics on this disc (and quite a bit of the ones on 'Music') really made me long for the days of Patrick Leonard/Stephen Bray/Jellybean Benitez/Shep Pettibone/Babyface...anyone that could help Vadge come out with a decent verse and a passible middle 8. Hell, even 80's songs that were obviously meant to be filler (ie: Jimmy Jimmy, Can't Stop) had strong melodies and great bridges. It's like the lady forgot to write songs in the mid-2000s. But, yeah, she's on key in that performance. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

"I'm Going Bananas" is better than "Mother and Father."

ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AWFUL!!!! (And that's being generous). Who would believe such an amateur could be the most successful female artist in history? This is truly a mad, mad world we're living in. (Also, note the presence of the second guitarist to try and add colour to her rudimentary strumming). “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

LOL, oh yeah. Madonna should have paid ABC to keep the camera only on her, to help the illusion. Here's the deal. In pop music, it's not how good you are, it's how good you're packaged. Hardly a revelation, I know. But for the real goods: http://www.youtube.com/wa...6GqWpuefc8 Some people tell me I've got great legs...

But for the real goods: http://www.youtube.com/wa...6GqWpuefc8 God, listen to that poor excuse for a chorus. What terrible songwriting. And this girl's voice is bland too. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I wish I was in a foot of snow with my sweetie, preparing to go to Illinois to spend the time with my family. Or with him. It should at least be cold at Christmas But, you know, the weather IS nice. But it just doesn't feel like Christmas. It kind of sneaks up on you here. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

Ugh. I lived in northern Ohio for 13 years. I do not miss the snow at all. I mean, it would be fun to experience it again, but I prefer not having to bundle up and shovel the driveway.
