Good list but so many more could go on that list, one day a few years ago i was in Tower Records and saw an import called "The Best of Eddie Murphy" and it wasnt his comeday stuff, and featured 3 versions of Party all the time.

I would submit Hilary Duff in place of Color Me Badd. Color Me Badd actually had HITS.

"Wild Thing", "Funky Cold Medina" and "Bust A Move" boast some of the best hooks of the rap era. Tone Loc and Young MC deserve to pimp the shit out their hits cuz there just ain't gonna be no more.

I still dont believe that Color Me Badd where actually singing on their records, i think they were the white Milli Vanilli's except they didnt get caught. I heard a story that when they did background vocals for Billy Joel's "all about soul" other people showed up in their place.

to say 'the best of' is more truthful and appropriate in some of these cases because it merely implies that this is the best that this artist has to offer, but 'greatest hits' is criminal because it suggests songs that were hits.

and clearly they weren't in these cases.

Nah, they did their own singing. They did some acappella numbers on a few awards shows. I thought they harmonized well. They didn't have the best material, but they were good singers.

This is a good topic, as just about everyone with a single hit has been given some compilation. It used to be a rite of passage.

Seeing CeCe Peniston have a greatest hits compilation in Best Buy really pissed me off because (1) I can't stand her, and (2) I thought her "hits" could fit on a 45.

But you were wrong. I think she may have had more hits than everyone in that list combined (OK, Color Me Badd excepted).

On a slightly unrelated side bar, Wikipedia notes the following about the band's fourth album, Now & Forever, "sales were well below those expected from the group, with initial sales of only 32 units in the U.S." There are no sources cited, and that could be a typo, but until proven otherwise we're just going to accept that as the saddest damn thing we've ever read.

the only thing i remember about Color Me Badd besides I wanna Sex you up was that they were part of a really shitty time in music, it was just a depressing time period, RB was dieing Rap was all gangsta and Rock was all Grunge and suicidal.

Color Me Badd weren't that bad. I like "I Wanna Sex You Up"; I prefer the original New Jack City version that starts "hey, beautiful lady" over their album version with the falsetto "come inside, take off your coat, I'll make you feel at home." The 12" version was hot -- I wish I had that. "I Adore Mi Amor" was OK (and unintentionally hilarious), but I absolutely hated "All 4 Love." The other singles from that album were OK, as was "Time and Chance."

I remember back, i forget the year but when i was in Music Retail still, we got in "The Best of Spice 1" we all looked at each other and were like "what?" and then saw we were getting 150 copies and back then you had to manually sku that shit, so we were all like this aint gonna sell here in NYC so we skued 5 kept 145 in the stock room and a month later sent back 150 copies to the label.

Well get ready because they are rumbling at Universal about a "Best of Rihanna" for next summer

She still is marginal at best for a compilation. And she still sucks! razz

Now you know you need to stop. cool Your logic applies if you only take into consideration the pop chart. Plenty of artists did a hell of a lot of bizz on other charts without making a lot of headway into the pop arena. Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly comes to mind; they never made the top 40 and only charted 4 songs on the Hot 100. By your standards, they shouldn't have a greatest hits either, but they charted nearly thirty R&B hits.

I don't have Ce-Ce's full chart info, but between 1992-1996 she charted 10 R&B hits from three albums. She also did very well on the dance charts.

It seems you don't like her, and that's fine. But cut the woman some slack. lol She did well in her chart demographic.
