NOW this is really funny........

So whos got the number selling album of 2007?? Is it Mr. Daughtry who had the whole year of selling and American Idol $$ to push him...NO....is it Kanye who did more bragging than any man alive....NO...is it a teen sensation or a High Scholl Musical?.....Well No....Its Josh Groban with his Xmas album. Why is this funny, well for the points just said, this record sells one time of year, basically a 6 week time period and it has topped records that have had promo $$ and most/whole year to sell, his total right now is at 2.77 million and right behind him, the Eagles, who do it in an even shorter time frame, with an album only available at walmart and not available through iTunes. So i think that puts a !! on the 2007 year, not because these two are at the top, because it really took nothing to get there, and all the promo and marketing and media done for everyone else seems like a big waste of time.....case in point...the MUCH hyped Bow Wow/Omarion COLLABO, hits at 11 with 107,000 sold, sure not a bad total, but considering Bow wow last year moved 265,000 same week, shows that this whole marketing scheme was dumb and a waste of $$.

Seriously, I think some people are just tired of the garbage that is released so often that sometimes they just want a simple record where there is no screaming, no swearing, nothing about bling, bitches and ho's - just music from a person who can sing.

well thats always been the case, and those mentioned are the tops really in touring but there are even the under-the-radar bands from say the 70's and 80's that may still record but dont get play on regular radio, but still tour, alot of that $$ is NOT counted on the touring lists because of who is sponsoring their tours and turning in the receipts. I think some artists still make some $$ on their music if they own it, whether it charts or not or does well with soundscan is pretty meaningless if you dont get $$ for what you are doing. But i think seeing the Eagles up there, and knowing that they are raking in some cash for that record, probably a few dollars per cd since its their own label, i think you may see alot more people going on their own and doing little deals with stores to get their product in.

another good point, i think this shows that these "marketing" wiz kids dont know shit. i just dont think its age its loyality, and you have to build it and earn it, by doing that you really have to cater to all demographics, not just to kids, especially these days, i mean for me when i was a teen, music was it, i didnt have to worry about cell phones and all this other crap, it was music, albums,vinyl, singles whatever then on to cds etc..

I think I can talk a bit about this. I'm 25. I must be one of the few people that buy cds (still I download alot). But I'm faithfull to some artists like Prince, Madonna or Kylie.

The older people that I befriended...35 onwards buy music.

My generation sees music as free

Well here in NYC though Tower records is gone, which was an import heaven for the most part, a place i have been going for about 17 years now is called Record Runner, if you are a fan of anyone from the 80's you could spend a year in this place, they can get you anything pretty much, and the store is about the size of a one-room apartment in NYC, but its an import heaven, thats all they sell for the most part, cds, vinyl,posters,dvds, vhs etc... but if someone comes out with something new, from that era pretty much they will have it, the import, the vinyl, the singles, the mixes. You name it they got it, or if its not in the store get them online, believe it or not Billboard once did a story on this store back in the mid 90s because they broke a million dollars in a year, that may not seem like much, but for a store that size with that limited stock that doesnt really care the "flava of the month" it showed that music fans are not gone.

I've heard a few songs from it on the Christmas stations and - though I've not bought it - I do like it. Anything to steal Daughtry's thunder is okay with me. biggrin

I only venture to the record store to buy an album of an artist that I like. I used to be big into buying CD singles of any song that I thought was cool, even if I wasn't a fan of the artist, but since most record labels find them to be a waste of time and don't want to make them anymore, I've gone to downloading a song when I like it. Sorry, but if I don't like an artist, but dig a song they make, I refuse to waste my money buying their entire CD, especially when I only like 1 or 2 songs on the album. The internet has turned out to be record companies and artists worst enemy because soo many young people can just download the songs and save their money. Can't say I blame them, because many of these people are over-paid anyway.
