I remember picking up the Thriller -notation transcripts book in the library when I was something like 13 and it had also "Muscles" transcribed at the end of it as a bonus. Needless to say, since I was 13 and didn't really know it was written for someone else, I was quite baffled.

Michael supposedly wrote the song "about his boa".

Yeah that must have been some boa in his mind alright.

What other notable Top Ten hit did MJ write for a woman around this time? Why the phallic "Centipede" for sister Rebbie, of course. I mean, come on!

If anyone wants to question Michael's sexuality, this is the song you would try to use as an excuse.

Where I came from there's a place called heaven
That's the place where all the good children go
The houses are of silver, the streets are gold
But there's more where you come from, my sugar walls

Blood races to your private spots, that lets me know there's a fire
You can't fight passion when passion is hot
Temperatures rise inside my sugar walls

Chorus:
Lemme take you somewhere you've never been
I could show you things you've never seen
I could make you never wanna fall in love again
Come spend the night inside my sugar walls

Take advantage, it's alright

I feel so alive when I'm with you
Come and feel my presence, it's reigning tonight
Heaven on earth inside my sugar walls

chorus

I can tell you want me, it's impossible to hide
Your body's on fire, admit it! Come inside
Come inside my sugar walls
Come spend the night inside my sugar walls
Space for sale...

Yea, cause 'Sugar Walls' is a vagina, while 'boa' and 'centipede' on the other hand are... well you figure it out wink

Yes, but he was encouraging listeners to, "Come spend the night inside MY sugar walls." lol He doesn't have a vagina...or does he? hmmm

At any rate, the song or video aren't creepy to me. In fact, I thank holy Jesus everyday for every second of camp that shit provided me. That video kills me!

lol I don't think either are creepy. Even if Prince was the one singing those lyrics, at the time I would have been all, "Okay...open up, cuz I'm 'bout to set up shack in there!" mr.green

Altough, the Diana Ross "workout" -music video, or wtf was it supposed to have been about, was even creepier than "Muscles". Also a youtube find for the patient seeker.

I agree, banks.
The song is STILL the business to me! And, I mean that in a good way!
That's what writers do! They get in the zone and put themselves in a certain frame of mind to bring forth a great song.
To me, MUSCLES is a great song! razz

On "I Hear Your Voice", the outtake version with the Prince vocals, you can clearly hear Prince lamenting how he just has bought a new dress for himself and his (male) lover fails to give him any attention for it.

Thriller81

Two guys wrote "All The Man That I Need"?
The writer of "Slow Hand" was a guy
Giving Him Something He Can Feel was written by Curtis Mayfield, and he wasn't gay.
Rick James wrote most/all of those Mary Jane Girls songs (Boys, All Night Long, In My House)

And so many more songs

Guys write songs about guys for women to sing all the time

"All The Man That I Need" was originally written as a duet. Then remade to a solo track.

"Slow Hand" has been a hit for both a man and a woman (Conway Twitty and Pointer Sisters).

I don't find it weird or creepy that certain songs were written by men about men. You have to remember that songwriters try to see things from different perspectives when writing trax. I've heard Babyface say that several times about writing for people like Karyn White and Whitney (he did write Superwoman).

Listen, I could care less if he is gay, but there are songs about adoring that man you love, thinking about "boys" in a silly manner and even writing from a female prespective...

Then they are not one but two exteremly sexual songs written from with an interest in men as sexual objects. If he got into character, fine, but no comparison to the songs you mentioned!
