If Madonna gets in shouldn't Janet, her first single was also released in 1982?

Sure was but you should know Madonna was gonna get in before her. If Janet get in next year or a year after that, they could use both of them for ratings.

janet should get in at the 25th anniversay of Control not before.

I adore Janet, but I do think it will be a LONG while before she gets inducted.

That's like saying Mike should have been educated on the 25th Anniversary of Off the Wall or Prince on the 25th of 1999.

Mike's first singles (1971) Got to Be There 4 Black/4 Pop
Prince;s first singles (1978) Soft and Wet 12 Black / 92 Pop
Madonna's first single (1982) Everybody [didn't chart]
Janet's first single (1982) Young Love 6 Black / 64 Pop
PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

Well the Hall of Fame is a funny thing. Prince and Madonna got in their first years. Michael got in five years after he was first eligible and that was around the time of his "30th anniversary celebration" shit so who knows? They inducted the Jackson 5 three years after they were first eligible too.

Madonna traditionally got more love and attention from the Rock (and it's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) critics than Janet, she's made a bigger impact on popular culture, and by 1984, Janet might have had a few minor pop hits and one or two notable R&B songs, but Madge was a superstar already. So, maybe they looked at their career trajectories and decided that while Janet's first single might have been bigger than Madge's, Madonna made a bigger splash in the beginning of her career.

But Madonna's first single did go to number one on the DANCE chart. That's her REAL niche, her first home was the clubs.

True, but I still don't think Janet has ever gotten the love and respect from the critical press that Madonna has. Or that Prince or Michael have. Truly, I never expected Janet Jackson to be inducted on her first year of eligibility. Maybe on the 25th anniversary of Control, which even Janet herself tries to pass off as her "first" album.

Mike was already a star

Prince was groundbreaking producing and recording his first album by himself at 19

Whether you she got in this year with Everybody or next with the First Album she was on her way to being a cutlural phenom

Janet was just Mike's little sister until 86.

That's pretty much it with a handbasket. Also, Janet was known more for her TV roles than her music though the R&B world appreciated her efforts at the time. She didn't become a pop success until "Control". That's when the notion of being Mike's sister and "Penny" suddenly was put in as footnotes.

Exactly. Her two albums were non-events to her. Everything came together with "Control".

It's too bad all the nominees didn't get in.

I like it when there are groupings of artists that make sense together, like the year when The Ramones and Talking Heads got in and Tina Weymouth mentioned it not being fair that Blondie was excluded.

Having Donna, Madonna and the Beasties would make a lot of sense. They're forerunners in their genres of disco, dance and rap - all under-represented styles in the Hall of Fame. And heck, does anyone remember the Virgin tour? It'd be fun just to see them all in a room together. Madonna sampled and covered Donna. Disco gave rise to dance music. I mean, I would love to see them all get in together. But if couldn't be that way, if anything Madonna should be there giving a speech to induct Donna.

This is a little disappointing. Missed opportunities.

Yeah the Hall tends to work that way, they even forget sometimes when you have had a hit single too, case in point would be Rick Springfield (yeah Rick) everyone thinks he began in 1980 with Jessie's Girl, but actually he had a Top 15 single in 1972 called "Speak to the Sky" and 7 other chart entries and 5 albums before 1980 but even when he is written about, it always says "chart debut 1980" he was a "teen idol" in 1980 when he was 33 years old!

Considering Gwen has borrowed alot of Madonna style over the years. In a way, it would be befitting for her give props to Madge.

I was also hoping for a more themed show. Donna influenced Madonna obviously as she sampled her, the Beastie Boys opened for Madonna on the Virgin Tour and Nile Rodgers worked with Madonna on the Like A Virgin album....as did other members of Chic if I'm not mistaken. Some of the drum beats on that album have a very "Chic-ish" vibe to them. That would've been great to have all of those acts inducted at once. Madonna could've done Future Lovers and break into I Feel Love like she did on her tour last year, but have Donna do that part of course. She could've done Like A Virgin with the members of Chic (minus the girls).....ohhhh....what could've been.

I dont mean 2 upset people...and even though I think Donna Summer is amazing in concert and the is a good singer and artist...she just didnt last as long as Madonna...Donna is still kinda livin on her old material..Maddy deserves it. She is the female re-inventionist...and still can sell millions 25 years in2 her career.

the Dave Clark Five.

The Dave Clark Five selection, on the surface, seems like an odd one.
Always liked most of their songs (Glad All Over, Bits And Pieces, Catch Us If You Can, etc).
However I never thought the group was "Hall Of Fame" caliber.

Also, their material is incredibly hard to come by at a reasonable price.
For example, this 50 song comp...

At the very least, this induction should help to rectify that.

My favorite tune by them...
