why did I never hear of Metric and Emily Haines before?

Aussies are always the last to know. Being so far down under and all, it takes awhile for music to trickle down to you guys.

 When I first read about Emily's solo album, I thought I would love it, being described as dark piano ballads, but then I listened to samples and it didn't do anything for me. The music was nice enough, but I don't like how her voice sounds naked like that. | |

(not that I listen to the radio or anything anyway I saw the video for "Monster Hospital" on MTV last year. That was how I found out about them. I only watch MTV one hour a week for their alternative video show. That show has turned me on to a lot of bands. | |

Metric are a Toronto band. Emily Haines is eminently boneable, but I find their music way-pretentious.
