Gorillaz Appreciation Thread

I never hear anybody here talk about these guys. Are there any fans of Gorillaz here on the Org? I have really been into there music hard lately. I just bought the "D-Sides" disc. AMAZING ALBUM! A must have for any fan with outtakes & B-Sides from there Demon Days Album.

I really think they have an original sound that is easily recognizable when u hear it. Also there Artwork & Video animations are like no other Band.

My favorite songs by them are; Tomorrow Comes Today, Hong Kong, Dare, Dirty Harry, Kids With Guns, El Manana, New Genius....just to name a few.. biggrin

Danger Mouse is a very slept on Producer that needs more attention. His work with the Gorillaz was dope as hell. eek

yeah he's really awesome and different. I think he could have blended in dance and hip hop for madonna more than timbaland and pharell, as much as I like them as producers

I know, and that's great. 20 years from now, they will use robots instead of people to produce pop stars, and it'll all be thanks to one man who IS the gorillaz biggrin

Demon Days is absolutely stunning, and one of the greatest pieces of art of this decade. I can't think of another album that captures the spirit of paranoia and fear that has lurked beneath the surface for the whole decade better than this one. It plays like a good horror movie- one in which you actually care about the characters and gradually, but surely, sinks its teeth in. Thoroughly appetizing and rewarding listen!

I couldn't have said it better. "Demon Days" gives me the same feeling as when I first heard Pink Floyds' "Dark Side of The Moon". Brilliant album..I can't wait 4 there next album!

headbang that's a very good song.In recent years,I've been suggesting that Janet Jackson or Madonna should collaborate with these guys.Janet especially could use a hot groove like "Dare".

lol I don't think they will release any more albums- I think I read that somewhere. I think Gorillaz was only ever meant to be a side project- their wild success seems to have come as a rather pleasant surprise. Personally, I greatly prefer them to Blur.

neutral that's sad. They're one of the few modern-day pop/rock bands who are making interesting music.

I agree.

Taken from wikipedia, so not necessarily reliable:

"In a September 2006 interview with Uncut magazine, Albarn was reported saying '[Gorillaz] has been a fantastic journey which isn't over, because we're making a film. We've got Terry Gilliam involved. But as far as being in a big band and putting pop music out there, it's finished. We won't be doing that any more.'"
