Hurray Harry Connick Jr! It's time for his monthly 'I Love Harry'-thread! And why? Cuz I loves his music n voice.
He is a disgrace for handsome people! He is actually good at stuff; like singing, playing piano and arranging classics in a way so they sound fresh again. He, as a straight man, also played in a queer sitcom AND acted in a musical AND recorded a cd filled with loverly re-arranged musical songs. And now it is time for Xmas and I can shamelessly play his Xmas albums. Hurray For Harry! And try to get his BBC performance. It is really good. Dayum.

Harry Connick Jr performs an exclusive concert for the Radio 2 Music Club at Maida Vale Studios, London.
A celebrated artist on both sides of the Atlantic, Harry Connick Jr has amassed a remarkable list of achievements since he was first spotted by Columbia Records while still at music school in New York. Since those early days he has made over 20 albums, won three Grammy awards and been nominated for Tony, Emmy, Oscar and Golden Globe awards. Born in New Orleans, Harry’s musical talents were discovered and encouraged at an early age. Lucky enough to get his grounding in music under the tutelage of Ellis Marsalis and James Booker, Harry eventually went on to study at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. It was while he was there that he made his first record. It was mainly an instrumental album of standards, but it was the start of his highly successful musical career. His latest album focuses on his home town of New Orleans. A city that has a wealth of musical influences bubbling up within the city’s boundaries. A magical mix of musical genres including jazz, gospel, brass band, rhythm and blues, country, funk, all of which can be heard on Harry’s latest album. Hear tracks from his new album, along with a few of his greatest hits, at his exclusive concert for the Radio 2 Music Club at Maida Vale Studios in London.

I finally found Star Turtle! That took me a long time...

A guy who worked for me gave me his She album some yrs ago, I was stunned by what I heard, reminded me alot of a funky aftershow workout by Prince, I was actually surprised I hadnt listened to his music before. If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Both She and Star Turtle were his sidesteps from the genre that made him famous, but indeed; he did it SO well. Those album grounded me into a fan.

Got nothing but great things to say about HC.
"She" helped me get through a summer internship in Cincinnati. I thought it would be a mellow follow-up to "Blue Light, Red Light" (another awesome album). When I checked it in a music store, I couldn't believe it: I was hearing Prince, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Wings, etc. And, Harry's a multi-instrumentalist! Killing guitar and other instruments! Who knew? "Star Turtle" also was phenomenal. The jazz station here plays him on the regular. Dude's got chops, as a musician, actor and comedian (he gives great interviews). A cut-up, a ham, and husband to a model. Man, that dude gets on my nerves!!!

Harry can play FUNK with the best of them, i think what alot of people dont know is that he plays alot of instruments besides Piano, and he's about as good a Bass Player too. And also his musical output is amazing, his instrumental Jazz work is top notch stuff, his FUNK albums are amazing, his standards are made to sound as if they are HIS own creations, one of the best of this era.
Still my favorite album is Star Turtle and SHE and Oh My Nola is kick ass too, also check out his Jazz instrumental album that was released the same day as the Nola Cd. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

A cut-up, a ham, and husband to a model. No ham, dude's Jewish, right? Mother Anita (RIP) was Jewish, and his dad Harry Sr. is Catholic. Harry grew up observing Catholicism, but had more than a passing familiarity with his mom' Jweish roots

Add me! I've been a fan for years! I'm also impressed with what I've seen of him as a person. I was moved when I saw him wading in that water in NO to personally assist people after Katrina. He wasn't just talking; he was doing! AND Lord knows he's a sexy somethin', too!! Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.
