It's probably safe 2 say that there is NOT a stone unturned in the James Brown catalog of music!!!! He is undoubtedly THE most sampled artist in Hip-Hop/R&B history!!!!!

Here's my thought on this: I bet your overestimation that a BILLION have sampled it was as intentional as my underestimation that nobody had. Now I might be silly, but I think we both might have been applying sarcasm to the situation.

Yeah that song has been sampled more times than I can count, the intro, the guitar riff, the "hit me" breakdowns and finally the ending! I'm exhausted after hearing so many songs from the hip-hop, dance, pop and R&B worlds that have sampled this masterpiece over and over and over again!

I think my most recent favorite sample use of it was on Madlib's Movie Scenes:

The movie Dead Presidents uses this song brilliantly in the scene when they are playing pool and the pimp is talking about tapping the main character wife while he was away.
The soundtrack overall is fantastic but I thought the use of the tension in the song just rocked me. I love the scream a few minutes in..... Music is the best...

One of JB's best. This song was supposed to be the theme for a movie called "The Big Payback" w/ Fred Williamson (back in the 70's) but it was never made.

It was also used very effectively during the last episode of Damages this past year. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

The film producer made a ridiculous comment about "The Big Payback", he said the song was not so much JB as "The Boss" was and told him that he couldn't put it in the film. Shame that Edwin Starr's soundtrack didn't sell well but "The Big Payback" went #1 on the R&B charts. Ain't that a bitch?!

Actually, it was supposed to have been use in Fred Williamson's Hell Up In Harlem.
It was turned down due to thinkin that it wasn't gonna be a hit. That trigger J.B. to release it anyway....and...well..you know The rest is history

Mine, too. JB made a lot of great songs, but this is the one! It's 7 damn minutes long, but I usually have to hit repeat when it's over. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
