THE DOOBIE BROTHERS!!!!! Why haven't we shown love to them?!!!

Just for their appearance on What's Happening alone, they should be praised. The thing that kills me i hear this argument that how music is so FREE now and things like that, but the Doobies and others from the 70's could get played anywhere, you had Sly and EWF getting "White" radio play you had Elton, Hall and Oates getting "black" radio play, you had Queen having a number one RB hit. I mean if What's Happening was on TV now the only artist you would see on their would be some rapper. I'll go ahead and admit to being a big Michael McDonald fan, so my favorites aren't the least bit surprising:
1. What a Fool Believes 2. Takin' It to the Streets 3. Minute By Minute "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Flowerz said: yes it does Listening to Dedicate This Heart now... No more goodbye, or waitin' for some lucky day, No driftin' along , no walkin' away. What I feel inside, ain't some idle game I play, This love is alive, and i'm here to stay, baby. Here in your life, there in your heart, There by your side, that's where I want to be. It's plain to see, it's time for me to dedicate this heart, baby. You've grown to be a part of me, so I dedicate this heart. You hold the key, to love for me, so I dedicate this heart. In your name, baby. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

An absolutely iconic moment of 1970's pop culture. Every kid of the 70's remembers that! In any event, they performed the most deceptively upbeat song I can remember: "What A Fool Believes." Their "love" songs were invariably very well written. It's almost as if they were TWO bands: one pre-McDonald, a rootsy rock band and post-McDonald, a crossover groove machine. tA mentioned most of my faves, but I'll put another word in for "Minute By Minute." It's stripped down and to the point. Like later on, when Prince sung, "U think u're special/Well, so do I," they sing, "you think I'm your fool/well you may just be right." I only have a few memories of pre-McDonald Doobies but definitely love them. Michael McDonald’s voice is like butta! I love listening to them when I’m driving.

Many here seem to prefer the Michael McDonald fronted years. Nothing wrong with that at all; it's good music. However, I'm partial to their more rockin' years.
Toulouse Street The Captain and Me Love both of those albums!

I've got their greatest hits but the songs are all from the early to mid 70s. I love all those songs but my favorites are from the late 70s such as "What A Fool Believes", "Little Darlin", "Minute By Minute", etc. I saw a collection with those songs in the record store but it costs more than I want to spend. Andrew, Have you yet moved into online purchases? You might try this amazing thing called Amazon.com! It's (skin)tight! They even selled used CDs. I just received my Christmas gift to myself in the mail the other day and I have been loving it. I bought the "Gay Sex In The 70s" soundtrack which has rare disco songs by folks like Taana Gardner (not the popular "Heartbeat" but some of her other songs). I also bought a DVD called "Solar's Galaxy of Stars Live" which features concerts by The Whispers, Lakeside, Dynasty, and Shalamar. I'm still disappointed with my online purchase of two CD players with pitch control (that wouldn't play CD-Rs) and I returned them. It was a big hassle and to return them but Amazon gave me my money back in full, even though the third party vendor refused to. Amazon is definately the way to go. . . Kind of ruined them in the end (like Genesis, Chicago, & Commodores when their smoother, more pop singers took over), but they definitely got some good stuff out out of Michael McDonald, too.
