Kylie Minogue- X

After much anticipation and waiting, Kylie has finally delivered her first studio album after recovering from cancer. Having recorded over 40 tracks for the album and endured several of the cuts leaking on the net, Kylie probably hasn't ever had as much hype before a release.

I absolutely adore it, all the way through. I was a little wary of it given the negativity on various Kylie sites, and the fact that I was hoping for a bit more depth lyrically (I'm still pissed that "White Diamond" isn't included). However, I really, really love it, and can tell that I'm easily going to get addicted to the damn thing! lol It is very diverse, but it's held together well for me so far.

I'll give very brief impressions, and link to youtube clips were possible.

"2 Hearts" is a perfect lead single to me. Punchy, glamorous and effective.

"Like a Drug" is writhing and sultry fun. The X Mix on her myspace represents it well.

"In My Arms" leaked months ago, and although it has never really been my favorite, but it does scream single and I have grown to enjoy it.

"Speakerphone" is modern, sexy, fly and thrilling. A cut for Cinnie for sure. A definite highlight and the "jam" of the album.

"Sensitized", another track that leaked months ago, is re-sung and has an altered ending. I've always liked its relentless, string-led chug, and it fits well where it is.

"Heart Beat Rock" reminds me of Gwen's semi-urban flippant fun. Definitely Kylie as snooty leader of ceremonies with plenty of attitude. Very stop/start and jerky, and I love it! The sassiest song on the album for sure!

"The One" simply sounds like the greatest song ever recorded when it's on! It always gives me chills and has quickly ascended the ranks to become one of my all-time favorite Kylie songs. While a sonic cousin to "Can't Get You Out of My Head", this one drips with a more melancholy, universal emotion. It's hard not to be touched by the newly single Kylie pleading "Love me, love me, love me, love me", whether as a call to a prospective beau or as an effort to reach out to fans. Breathtaking!

"No More Rain" is very, very lovely. It's one of the few songs that seems to have the depth I was craving. A direct message to those who supported her through her illness.

"All I See" jumps out as an American-edged mid-tempo sizzler in the style of Janet. Those who don't like Body Language might not like this, but I do!

"Stars" has always been one of my favorites since it leaked months ago. It's obviously a personal song for Kylie, and the guitars are more than welcome here.

"Wow" is pure pop confection. It does seem a bit puerile, but it works better without the imagery of the Kylie Show. It recalls Madonna's "Holiday" quite a bit. Not my favorite, but it makes sense as a single as it is perhaps the catchiest song on the album.

"Nu-di-ty" is quite simply a mindwarp. Those who liked the edgier side of Body Language will like this, and it really ups the ante! The weirdest thing she's ever done, and all the better for it! Another cut for Cinnie.

"Cosmic" is a sweet, touching finish to the album. It sounds a little weird juxtaposed with "Nu-di-ty", but it offers another meaningful statement about her perspective on things.

I'm hooked! The album is all over the place, but is a great collection of songs. I'll be enjoying this for a long time, and this has easily cracked my top 5 albums of the year. Well done, Kylie! It's so great to have her back, and I'm so grateful that she didn't just hang it up in 2005. A true gift for the fans.

I love you too much to put you through the embarrassment of a competition comfort

It took me a while to warm up to body language, although You Make Me Feel is one of the most perfect pop songs EVER. Much of what I previewed didn't feel alien to me like some of the body language stuff. I didn't know it was out yet boxed

Is this out finally on the 27th?

It's so good, and I have been BOMBARDED with fourth quarter release leaks. This one I actually enjoyed.

In Canada, it is. In the US, it isn't out until February.

I don't know. I don't listen to radio! I'm glad she seems to be getting some play, though!

You can always order it online from other countries! I'll have to do that to get bonus tracks I'm missing.

Chill out, Bugs. It's no secret gays love these kind of divas more than straight guys. I'm just wondering if the divide is really as great as it seems.

There have been two TV specials from Kylie in the last week. Both of them peak time. Both of them utterly superficial. Her music just seems so vacuous to me, and her body of work very poor. So when I look in on a thread like this and see her being worshipped I can't help but wonder why. If you're all gay then I guess I just have to accept that it's "a gay thing".

It's "a people who enjoy Kylie's music" thing.

Right, that's one confirmed hetro (Moonbeam). Novabreaker doesn't seem to be salivating over her excrement so I'd leave him out of it.
