"This is How We Do It" Mix Question

So I heard Montell Jordan's song, "This Is How We Do It" last night, on a radio station and it sounded different. It sounded like he did a different vocal take, cus the ad libs were different and the chorus refrain of "This Is How We Do It" sounded robotic and panned weird. It sounded like it would go from side to side in a circle. (If that makes sense...) My friend who isn't into music production at all even noticed it. When I called in, they just claimed it was the album mix.
I downloaded the "album mix" and it wasn't panned in that cool way and the ad libs sounded like the same old thing.

I've heard the radio edit and the "lp version" edit, and neither are it.

Are they playing some remix and duping me? Does anyone have the actual CD from 1995/1996 - is it panned that way on it and just normal sounding on iTunes?

I really want to hear the version I heard on the radio...again. Someone help me.

It was probably something that their resident DJ did himself, for that radio station. Alot of times, radio stations have their DJ's do exclusive mixes of certain songs. It was done alot more in the late 80's early 90's. The reason for him saying otherwise, was probably due to the fact that it was not an official remix of the song and saying something, might open a can of worms.

I heard a rumor that Maddona owns the rights to this song.

Maybe it's an early version of it.
We have 2 differnt videos for it at work.
One of them looks very cheap and the song sounds a bit different.
The other is the one that gets played all the time and is on the album.

I remember "Play That Funky Music" by Vanilla Ice was like this. All my friends had bought it on cassette and it was horrible.

Then it got released as a single so I went and bought the album on CD. The CD version I had bought was the same as the video/radio version. Which sounds WAY better than version my friends had...different lyrics, production ect..
