Recommend a Good SOUL/R&B Album released in 2006 or 2007

'm in the mood to expand my musical library and I've been adding way to many techno/house and rock albums to the mix, but not enough soul/R&B.

So, can someone catch up up to speed on the best releases of 2006/2007 ?

I hear there are some great R&B/Soul acts in England this year.

Beyonce's B-Day

At first listen I was upset..but as the year went on this became a campy fun upbeat album with lots of up & midtempo tracks and sounds like Beyonce not caring about the clean-ness of the tracks or having over-production. Oh and NO RAPPERS!!!

Chaka Kahn - Funk This
Chaka never sounded so good. She sound like she just came out of 1978. Super Life, Angel and Disrespectful is enough alone to pick it up. nod

Nelly Furtado - Loose
headbanger. R&B, Pop and 80's all in one record. Personal, achieveing, the sound is flawless and so are the songs. Glow, Afraid, Do It, and Showtime are hot tunes
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Me'shell Ndegeocello - "The World Has Made Me The Man Of My Dreams"

though it goes quite a bit beyond soul/r&b.

Actually, this is a great recommendation.

I listened to an interview of her once with NPR, and calling her R&B/Soul is like calling Prince that. lol But it gets me in the ballpark. I actually don't own any of her stuff. I think I'll add that to my list, thanks! thumbs up!

Love Chaka and I like Nelly. Beyonce is a bit over the top for me, but I'll check it out on iTunes.

Thanks!

...and for: "You Belong To Me" featuring Michael McDonald, "Castles Made of Sand", and of course "Sign 'O' The Times". This is an album I feel good about recommending.

The best R&B album of the last two years is definitely On the Jungle Floor by Van Hunt IMO.

Why restrict yerself to new stuff; anything by Al Green or Bill Withers. Shuggie Otis' Inspiration Information.

This year; Rahsaan Patterson's Wines & Spirits is amazing.

And if you hear Pich Black you know why I like this boundary crossing singer/producer/songwriter. Amazingly dope. The stuff I yearn Prince to do, but is too weak to do. Hurray for Rahsaan.

I keep hearing about it being the BEST album from 2007.

Haven't heard it to be the judge though,,,and I'm having mixed thoughts about getting it too.

But I like "Its Alright".

My suggestions to add to the pile.

Mavis Staples...

...We'll Never Turn Back

Soulive...

...No Place Like Soul

Chaka Khan...

...Funk This

All of the above recent releases include elements of Soul/R&B (songwriting, musicianship, vocal performance, melody, harmony), from traditional to contemporary.
