Olivia's music can sort of be divided up as pre- and post-Grease. The change in her style of music was basically like Sandy getting her cherry popped. lol She was more light pop/country oriented in the 70s and switched to more pop/rock after that.

Her best album is...

Totally Hot - 1978

The title track was a minor hit, but both Deeper Than the Night and Little More Love (my fave tune by her) were big hits.

The video's totally goofy (she looks like Tinkerbell) and the keyboard player's a total goon, but it's a great song. Universal put out two DVDs of her video hits a couple years ago.

And then there's Xanadu. biggrin Great album.

I loved Olivia's sexy 1985 album SOUL KISS. Those sexy Helmut Newton photos along with the track "Culture Shock" reminded me of Dale Bozzio from Missing Persons. I adore the hit title track (and video) "Soul Kiss".

Soul Kiss was sort of like Olivia's Erotica. It pretty much flopped and was the end of her commercial success. I like the sexy title track...cheesy but fun.

Well, Erotica is actually a great record. Can't say the same about Soul Kiss (the album). lol It's more that Olivia tried to sex/kink it up (check out the photo of her topless with a whip) and people just rejected her.

And before everyone goes nuts, I was not saying that Erotica was the end of Madonna's commercial success. lol

You're crazy! I love that album.

And I love that photo of Olivia on Greatest Hits: Vol 2. I have it on vinyl. Herb Ritts snapped that shot.

Olivia's SOUL KISS really wasn't a flop, just a disappointment. It did achieve gold status and spawned a Top 20 hit with the title track.

hmmm this is a skimpy compilation that mainly focuses on her post-Grease hits. You should get the 2-CD 'Gold' compilation that covers everything.

Olivia's 1988 big commercial-flop release, THE RUMOUR, was actually one of her most critically-acclaimed and personal albums to date. It was produced by Davitt Sigerson (Tori Amos' Little Earthquakes) and contains four songs written/co-written by Olivia. The album embraces Olivia's major concern for the environment with "Let's Talk About Tomorrow" and concern for social issues like AIDS with "Love And Let Live". Elton John practically handed her a 'hit-song' with the lead-off single "The Rumour". It, of course, was not a hit in the USA. I think it is one of Olivia's best CD's. It has held up over the years and sounds great 19 years after it's release. Check it out.

Olivia Newton-John - THE RUMOUR (MCA)

Track Listing:
1. The Rumour
2. Love And Let Live
4. Can't We Talk It Over In Bed
5. Let's Talk About Tomorrow
6. It's Not Heaven
7. Get Out
8. Big And Strong
9. Car Games
10. Tutta La Vita
