The most recent track I can think of is: Miss Money / Can't Knock Da Knock (2006)

It indirectly samples Mtume's "Juice Fruit," but she's actually rapping over Biggie's "Juicy." So it's a case of an artist interpolating an interpolation.

As far as who sampled it best, I guess I'd say Biggie because he did add a boom-bap element to it (and he got the most mileage from it). However, I still prefer the original 1983 recording over all of them because in the original it still has that delicious synth solo during the bridge that I love. Many of the rap samples of "Juicy Fruit" neglect that part of the song -- they always just loop the lone beat, the guitar riff and the minor keyboard underbeat.

Warren G used it twice on his debut but I think in more interesting ways.

"Do You See" has the "Juicy Fruit" drums looped underneath Junior's "Mama Used To Say".

"This D.J." has scratches from a line in "Juicy Fruit" during his hook:
It's kind of easy when you're listening to the g-dub sound
Pioneer speakers bumpin' as I smoke on a pound
I got the sound fo yo ass and it's easy to see
(*scratches* whistle "I like it! I like iiiiit") that this d.j. be warren g

"The Ave." by Dre Dog [1993]

(Tangent: Dre Dog used "Between The Sheets" on his 1993 album before Biggie's "Big Poppa" too. hmmm)

I never knew this song existed. I had to look it up and found out it's supposed to be a sequel to her remake of "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore".

Co-sign, but you know there's been SO MANY R&B SONGS that have sampled this song over the years, I swear James Mtume has ownership of the song. He'd be a fucking billionaire by now! falloff

It's one of the most sampled songs I can think of. It's also one of the finest- pure delight! That whole album is fantastic. "Hips" certainly has me shaking mine...

It loses its ummmph the minute somebody else touches it, even though I give Biggie Smalls the credit for making go back and check the original.

If it ain't got James Mtume, Reggie Lucas, Hubert Eaves, Tawatha Agee, Howard King and Basil Fearington,,,4get about it.
