Mary Esther Wells appreciation thread

This woman doesn't a stinking Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction to solidify her legend. Her voice provided the early backbeat to the Motown Sound. Though she is known internationally as the singer behind "My Guy", she was literally the best singer besides Marvin Gaye and David Ruffin to make Smokey Robinson's compositions sizzle.

Before Diana, she was indeed the "First Lady" of Motown and here are the reasons why:

Bye Bye Baby (1960) - Ms. Wells' first record and first hit with Motown

The One Who Really Loves You (1962) - her first top ten hit single

You Beat Me to the Punch (1963) - her second top ten hit single

 I got more coming, just gotta find some... lol

What Love Has Joined Together (1963) - this is a slow drag cool

He's the One I Love (1964) - another slow one

I Don't Wanna Take a Chance (1961) - Mary's first top forty hit (she was only 17 when she recorded/released this!)

Two Lovers (1962) - Mary's second (or third) consecutive top ten pop hit considering which songs came out first

And here is the song that made her a legend:

cool

My Guy
(Wm. Robinson)

Nothing you can say can tear me away from my guy
Nothing you can do 'cause I'm stuck like glue to my guy
I'm sticking to my guy like a stamp to a medal
Like birds of a feather, we stick together
I'm tellin' you from the start, I can't be torn apart from my guy

Nothing you can do can make me untrue to my guy (my guy)
Nothing you can buy can make me tell a lie to my guy (my guy, my guy, my guy)
I've given my guy my word of honor to be faithful and I'm gonna
You best be believin' I won't be deceivin' my guy

As a matter of opinion, I think he's tops
My opinion is he's the cream of the crop
As a matter of taste to be exact
He's my dear as a matter of fact

No muscle-bound man can ever take my hand from my guy (my guy)
No handsome face can ever take the place of my guy (my guy, my guy, my guy)
He may not be a movie star but when it comes to being happy, we are
There's not a man today who can take me away from my guy

No muscle-bound man can ever take my hand from my guy (my guy)
No handsome face can ever take the place of my guy (my guy, my guy, my guy)
He may not be a movie star but when it comes to being happy, we are
There's not a man today who can take me away from my guy (what you say?)
There's not a man today who can take me away from my guy (tell me more)
There's not a man today who can take me away from my guy (what's that?)
There's not a man today who can take me away from my guy.
