I'm from the US originally and am now in Australia. To me, Leona Lewis belongs to the archetype of "artists" produced by such shows as Idol- singers who can hit notes but who have no point of view or personality, rendering their songs lifeless and dull.

Oh, I can answer the Omar question easily. He only ever wrote one classic song, "There's Nothing Like This". I loved the sound of his album This Is Not A Love Song from 1997, but the only great tune on it was the cover of "Golden Brown". I love him as a musician, but unlike JK, he didn't know how to craft great tunes. Also, he was a boring performer. He didn't have the star quality of JK.

Over the past 13 years he’s been cited as a major influence by the likes of D'Angelo, Maxwell, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, India Arie and even Stevie Wonder.

I know. His arrangements on his 1997 album were fantastic and TNLT was a classic, so it makes sense he'd inspire those guys. However, you probably have a lot more respect for neo soul artists than I do. I find them boring as hell.

All this talk of UK R&B artists and no love for Andrew Roachford yet? Here he is together with TTD: http://www.dailymotion.co...ew-roachfo

And here doing Don't Know Why I Love You a couple of years ago: http://myspacetv.com/inde...id=2361029

Still looks and sounds the same as 20 years ago. New records of the same consistent quality too, but he can't get a mainstream break.

No discussion of great UK R&B artists would be complete without mentioning the most overlooked one of them all, Whycliffe (not to be confused with Wyclef of the Fugees). Dude was slammin' it in the early-to-mid 90s and only a few thousand people noticed. You won't find anything from him on Youtube, but he was definitely one of the most talented singer/songwriters we had and a great performer to boot, lots of energy and charisma, with a voice somewhere between TTD and Roachford.

P.S. I heard Leona Lewis's song for the first time and they've done a good job. I like the rhythm track. It reminds me of '90s pop a little bit. The lyrics are shit, but it's about as much as you could expect from a project of this sort.

You think Lemar and Craig David have written and produced songs as good as this?
