'THE ONLY FEMALE ON THE LIST OF 21'.....

UK Magazines: Q
Posted: 01 October 2007

The November 2007 issue of UK music magazine Q celebrates The 21 People Who Changed Music - Madonna is included and notably is the only female on the list of 21 which includes The Beatles, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix.

Madonna is the most successful female pop star that's ever existed. If she was to retire now - which looks unlikely - no other woman could come close to covering all her bases. Gwen Stefani makes similarly hooky pop-dance tracks. Fergie's got the moves. Lily Allen has the mouth; Kylie, the gay following; Dolly Parton, the business mind; Barbra Streisand, the ticket prices. But no female star - no star, full stop - does it as better as Madonna.

It's from Q magazin, what do you expect!

One would have thought someone like Aretha would be up there with Madonna. It's things like this that illustrates how overrated M is.

Like whatsgoingon said, it's Q magazine, what do you expect? lol Most of the albums come from British artists anyway with the exceptions of Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys, U2 and Jeff Buckley.

I'd actually replace some of these people with Aretha, Donna, Stevie and Marvin as people who really changed music.

I am not sure... The more I learn about Madonna, the more I am coming to respect her. I think she deserves a place in this list. Yes, she is overrated as a musical talent among some of her fans, but from the beginning she has never been about being a musical talent. For sure, however, she has sung some of the most memorable dance tracks of the last twenty-five years. I like how the article evaluates her career.

I am glad to see David Bowie and Michael Jackson on that list, and their respective albums.

But keep in mind, I believe this magazine once crowned Oasis as the greatest band of all time. eek
