Barbara Streisand: Discuss I noticed that there are almost no threads on Barbara Streisand.
Are there any fans of hers on the Org? I like some of her songs such as "The Way We Were" and "Happy Days Are Here Again." What about you? [Edited 10/29/07 22:43pm]

BTW, I would NOT recommend her Live at Madison Square Garden album. Streisand is good in small doses...not for an entire concert.

Back in the late 1970s, disco had become so popular that even people like Ethel Merman and Barbara Streisand started making disco records. One of the reasons disco died is because this made disco "uncool". I've always wished that Barbara Streisand would make a shit hop record. Andy is a four letter word.

I really enjoy her film work. Funny Girl and What's Up Doc? Are two of my favorite movies by her. I still never saw Yentl in it's entirety but I bought the soundtrack for my stepmother and ended up loving it she played it so much. I wish she did more film. Enjoyed her in Meet the Fockers.
Like quite a few songs by her and like Lauren Hutton I’m glad she never bent toward the entertainment standard of beauty and had rhinoplasty. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

One of favorite memories is a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live in a skit with Madonna, Roseanne Barr and Mike Meyers when he use to do a classic sketch called Coffe Talk.

Funny Girl is excellent.

Great singer. One of the best and a very good actress too. She's very funny and she's made some fantastic movies. I don't care for her personality too much and I think her head is way too big these days, but I do think she's a very talented woman.

Some people don't have to change their looks. They are very satisfied with how they look regardless of what others think. I for one am happy that she's never had her nose done.

Huge Barbra Streisand fan! I wasn't feeling her at first, but after I saw Funny Girl, I swear it changed my life. I still think Funny Girl is the best musical ever made. Not only is she a great singer, she's also a pretty good actress (except for Funny Lady that movie was HORRIBLE). Here are some of my faves:
Funny Girl (of course) The Way We Were What's Up Doc? All Night Long Yentl Nuts Also, I'm glad Barbra Streisand didn't get a nose job. If she did, she would look like everyone else in Hollywood. Her looks are one of the things that makes here unique. I also disagree with the Barbra Streisand concert commnent. I bought her 2006 concert album and I swear I felt like I was there! From the way she hit her notes to the orchestration: perfection. I also don't think her forays into disco were that bad either. No More Tears, the duet she did with Donna Summer is the shit! A real vocal exercise. They just don't make songs like that anymore!

I think she once mentioned that doing that would screw up her voice because of the way they reconstruct with surgery, very similar to the reason Jewel didnt re-do her front teeth because it would alter her vocals. Maybe some other singers should have considered that. Either way I think she's fine the way she is. Says a lot of what she thinks about her instrument. Also, for young, fearless, thinking women whose lives have been transformed by marriage and becoming moms I would reccommend her film "Up The Sandbox". I also reccomend it for those who have already gone through that stage and want to reflect on how we may have changed as women over time and social circumstance...

I'm "hooked" since her album "Guilty" came out in 1979 (shit I'm getting old.....at least I hope so, meaning to live long
Seen many if not all her movies, besides her unbelievable voice she's a great actress. Oh Yentl!! She's the one that made me discover I love to sing and I've been singing her music for years (still do) and it connects me with loads of joy whether listening or singing it myself So yeah you can consider me a fan. Her last tour a 100% of the profit went to charity. that was the reason she did the tour yet folks forget that. And her previous tour was lush...there was floor to floor red carpet and waiters serving wine and appetizers (of course at a cost)...the grandness of the event merited the cost IMHO. Space for sale...

and the nails!!! Here's Barbra as a young girl singing jazz. Without her hair dyed blond here, she looks like a pretty Turkish girl, eyes, nose, nails and all.. ...Lawd, to be 21 years old and brash again, I rarely wish for it until I see performances like this... http://youtube.com/watch?v=ahaW1ZXoPGg
