here's something i don't get the Springsteen album is selling great its gold already and it looks like it's gonna continue to sell for awhile so people are
buying it..so why in the hell don't top 40 stations pick up the excellent 1st single "Radio Nowhere"?? and it's not just Springsteen there are a bunch of established artists that still sell a ton of albums but yet are ignored by top 40 radio...hell in the 80's they would have had no problem playing an older artist on top 40 radio if it's a good song....so why not now?

Bruce is 58-years-old. Even in the '80s, top-40 had no interest in artists of that vintage.

After 3 weeks, it hasn't even sold what Bare sold in the first week. However, I think that is much more indicative of the state of the industry than it is a revelation of a dwindling fanbase. Bare didn't exactly get a lot of promotion either.

I'm happy Songs of Mass Destruction is still kicking around in the top 50. Hopefully it will for a couple more weeks.

i hear ya but if it's a good song what's the difference how old the artist is?
you can't see age on the radio and his whole album rocks more than anything out there by much younger artists

But lets be honest here, back in the 80's you could be over 40 years old and get played on Top 40 radio even, back in the 80's a typical Hot 100 chart showed the average artist age was 33, now in 2007 its around 23. Lets be real someone 33 is considered "over and old" in this market, shit i've heard people say someone thats 25 is old news in todays market, that is scary.

and that could be part of the reason for the decline in sales...in the 80's music appealed to a much larger demographic than it does now...right now they are catering to the very young teenagers...in the 80's and 90's it was pretty common for artists to appeal to any age..my dad and sometimes even my grandmother would like some of the popular songs that were played back then smile

Exactly! its a HUGE part of the reason for the decline in sales, the fact that they are only targeting one demographic (which by the way is the most un-loyal) is more a part for the decline than cd prices or downloading which is always the scapegoat. It would be different if music was the only thing out there, but nowadays "kids" are busy paying the cell phone bill or buying phones and things like that to even care about music or at least buy it. The truth of the matter is that the older artists are still pretty consistent with their sales, just look at McCartney this year, he did it all without radio play and video play, and others are doing the same.

i heard radio nowhere on the radio and thought it was an old bruce springsteen song that i didn't know as i don't know that many of his songs and then after it was over i changed the station and heard it again and thought what are the odds and then found out it was the new single. it has such an intensity to it. love, love, love it and have been listening to it for weeks now. i, however was not listening to the pop or r&b stations at the time and haven't listened to the radio in about 3 weeks now and haven't seen anything on the telly about it either. that song should be as inescapable as his old stuff

My two favorite artist are Prince and Bruce.

I think both Planet Earth and Magic were highly enjoyable and two of my favorites of the year.

This is the best Bruce album since Tunnel Of Love. It's Bruce for the most part the way I love him.

But I think if I had to make a choice I'd take Planet Earth.

Hmmm, Soulja Boy got the "hot song" but his album sales are shitty. Ha-ha... not surprised:

"I'll go triple platinum but you will go aluminum!" SCORE ONE!

And Graycap, except for Bruce, I honestly DON'T know anymore. disbelief
