i dont know either , his career was in a slop in the 90s and clive & co came up with this idea of a concept album in the form of supernatural. and he was basicly a guest artist on his own album. but imo it worked on supernatural. but the last 4 5 albums are all rehash for the worse. maybe he is trying to stay hip?

He could atleast get some more interesting people to duet with!
I'm so sick of his duets with different "flavor of the month" artists like Michelle Branch (I mean, she's okay I guess) and Chad Kroger .....Though I gotta admit I loved Smooth [Edited 10/22/07 13:47pm] If you will, so will I

Well although I do love "Smooth" and "Game of Love" I agree that it would be nice if Santana got back to singing his own songs. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

Exactly, Santana never sang his own songs. I'm firmly planted in denial

The answer is $. Supernatural gave him his first #1 album ever. You know how formulas are... if they bought the concept once they will buy it again.
Even if is post Supernatural albums haven't sold as well, this contemporary duet of the month thing might be still selling more units than his other stuff has.

Because in 2007 you can't PAY people to own a Santana album unless you trick them into thinking it's a "NOW" compilation.
and hell, who can blame them. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

Exactly, but I wish he would allow the lead singer in his band to sing the vocals on the records, too.Andy Vargas is the current lead vocalist for the Santana Band and he is great. The previous lead vocalist,Tony Lindsay, was even better. It's a shame that the public never gets to hear these guys, except at the shows.

Actually,in the early part of his career,Carlos actually sang on a few songs. That's his voice you hear singing on the 1971 song "Everything's Coming Our Way",and he can also be heard doing a verse on his 1973 song "Love Devotion and Surrender".He's not a bad vocalist at all

I was going to say this but I thought maybe they knew something I didn't. LOL, yes. I thought it was me...he may be able to carry a tune, but has he EVER sung lead vocals on any of his songs? Some people tell me I've got great legs...

Meh, I don't like Santana. Even his playing on those duet albums isn't all that good, he just plays the same licks the same way, and basically shits all over the song.

You call yourself "guitarslinger" and don't think Carlos playing is all that good? WTF? Clean your ears out. Carlos is one of the best. Who cares that he can't sing, he plays like a true musician.
